Sr Systems Engineer

Description

We are looking for an experienced Sr Systems Engineer to support and enhance enterprise infrastructure in Illinois. This Long-term Contract opportunity is ideal for a technical leader who can resolve complex systems challenges, strengthen security, and improve reliability across cloud and on-premises environments. The role will focus on modernizing core platforms, advancing automation, and partnering with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, well-governed infrastructure solutions.

Responsibilities:
Serve as the primary technical resource for diagnosing and resolving advanced infrastructure, platform, and systems-related issues.
Lead the alignment and consolidation of acquired or distributed environments to promote consistency, security, and operational stability.
Create and maintain automation tools and scripts using Python and/or Bash to streamline administration and reduce manual effort.
Manage and improve Microsoft 365, Azure, and related identity services to ensure performance, availability, and effective access management.
Direct infrastructure security efforts by applying hardening standards, addressing vulnerabilities, and improving overall risk posture.
Work closely with application and technology teams to support secure integrations and dependable system connectivity.
Enhance cloud design, backup and recovery capabilities, and data protection practices to strengthen resilience and integrity.
Contribute to audit and regulatory readiness by supporting infrastructure controls tied to compliance programs.
Partner on technology initiatives to deliver scalable, secure, and efficient infrastructure outcomes across the organization.

Requirements

At least 7 years of experience in systems engineering, senior systems administration, or closely related infrastructure roles.
Strong hands-on expertise with Microsoft technologies, including Microsoft 365, Azure, Active Directory, and Azure Active Directory.
Practical scripting and automation experience using Python, Bash, or both.
Demonstrated background in system hardening, vulnerability remediation, and infrastructure security troubleshooting.
Ability to function as a technical lead and trusted escalation point for complex operational issues.
Experience supporting cloud-based and hybrid infrastructure environments in enterprise settings.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server, Microsoft Exchange, and Citrix technologies.
