Summary

SEL's Magnetics Engineering team is expanding its capability to design, prototype, qualify, and release transformers and other magnetic components that uphold our standards for quality, reliability, and performance. As demand for new magnetic components grows, we are accelerating development and qualification efforts to support product innovation and manufacturing readiness.

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to collaborate with R&D, Manufacturing, and Magnetics Engineering teams to develop new transformer designs, qualification methods, and advanced test solutions. In this role, you will help define transformer performance requirements, influence design decisions during product development, and improve engineering processes, tools, and test capabilities to increase efficiency and product quality.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Design, analyze, and validate magnetic components and electronic circuits to meet product requirements. Lead hardware design reviews to demonstrate product and circuit robustness.
2. Leads in the development of magnetic components, hardware and system level specifications.
3. Develop and review test plans; execute or oversee testing; analyze results; and document findings for design reviews and project records.
4. Develop and maintain accurate project plans, schedules, and labor estimates.
5. Provides and maintains accurate project plans. Manages and/or leads hardware projects of moderate complexity. Coordinates engineering activities with purchasing and manufacturing.
6. Mentors and directs the efforts of associate engineers and technicians.
7. Apply SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing principles in all work activities.
8. Understand. Create. Simplify.
9. Other duties as assigned. .

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Typically 6+ years of experience in at least 2 of the following areas:

-- Transformer, Inductor, or other coiled component design

-- Analog circuit design and simulation (e.g. LTSpice)
-- Digital design with microprocessors/microcontrollers or programmable logic
-- Power supply design
-- Statistical Analysis using JMP or similar software

-- Electromagnetic field simulation, timing analysis, or signal integrity analysis (e.g., Ansys)

-- Engineering analysis using Mathcad, MATLAB, or Python
Demonstrated ability to mentor others
Strong written, verbal, and technical documentation skills
Ability to learn new technologies and assume new responsibilities
Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment
Background check results satisfactory to SEL
Negative drug test result(s)

Preferred Qualifications
Leadership experience or training
Strong project management knowledge and skills

Knowledge of one or more of the following:

-- Transformer design

-- Switch Mode Power Supply design

-- Industrial controls
-- 3-phase and electric power systems
-- Electric utility telecommunications

Pay Range Data

New hires generally start between $115,300 - $170,400. Our compensation ranges are based on the responsibilities of the role. Starting pay is determined individually and considers factors such as relevant experience, skills, knowledge, and training. Candidates may be considered at different levels based on their background. As a result, pay may vary to align with the level of the role.
