Senior Systems Administrator - DIRECT HIRE FULL TIME opportunity!

Our client, a utility company, is seeking a proactive professional to take on both technical and administrative responsibilities for overseeing and maintaining the entire IT Infrastructure portfolio. This includes managing vital components such as Windows, Linux, Active Directory, and various physical, virtual, and cloud-based environments. As a senior team member, this role will lead planning, develop policies, and ensure system integrity. Responsibilities encompass monitoring current solutions, implementing new systems and upgrades, deploying enhancements, and performing essential maintenance tasks.

DUTIES:

  1. Maintain and Develop the IT Infrastructure Group s Lifecycle Operations
  • o Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of the functionality of, and the ability to administer and troubleshoot across the portfolio of IT infrastructure which includes the below, along with all supporting components:
    • Servers & appliances (hardware, operating systems, hypervisors, storage, etc.)
    • Electronic Communications (voice, cellular, email, fax, telecommunication lines, chat, etc.)
    • Physical Environment (Server rooms, DR sites, etc.)
    • Virtual systems and related infrastructures
    • Cloud-based infrastructure technologies
    • Microsoft-based products
    • Non-enterprise scale business applications
    • Webservers
    • Backup & recovery
    • Monitoring and performance tools
    • Identity Management, Authentication and Authorization solutions
    • Automation and tools supporting Technology Support (workstations/laptops, peripherals, operating systems, software, etc.)

  • o Administer Active Directory (AD), including user accounts, Group Policy Objects (GPO), DNS, DHCP, and authentication services.
  • o Maintain the secure and continued operations of related infrastructure hardware and software through the review, deployment, and management of security and enhancement patches and updates.
  • o Anticipate, respond to, and identify technology/business needs by implementing new technology, hardware, software, processes, applications, and services, as well as enhancements to existing products and capabilities.
  • o Develop, implement, and administer software, tools, and procedures to monitor, alert, report on, and remediate issues within IT infrastructure.
  • o Drafts, analyzes, and implements IT infrastructure related technology, requirements, rules, processes, information flow, project plans, recommendations, functional and technical specifications, configuration, automation, issue remediation, and enhancements.
  • o Plan and execute corrective efforts to prevent and correct security vulnerabilities within IT infrastructure.
  • o Provides coverage for on-call 24/7 incident management support for the production environment.
  • o Recommends and adheres to requirements related to IT Infrastructure (e.g. OS settings, backups, authentication, etc.), based on manufacturer published authoritative guidance and/or company policy.
  1. Plans and Develops the Annual Budget, Application Roadmap, & Project Schedule
  • o Aids with the development of, and adherence to, a roadmap and lifecycle for the IT Infrastructure portfolio.
  • o Propose and execute projects and priorities according to strategic and tactical imperatives.
  • o Recommends and meets documented project goals, outcomes, requirements, timelines, tasks, and costs.
  • o Submits expenses and capital expenditures for budget approval and adheres to approved budgets.
  • o Provides guidance for project priorities according to strategic and tactical imperatives.
  1. Assures Compliance to Controls, Policies, and Regulatory requirements
  • Ensure compliance with policies, guidelines, procedures, licensing, contractual obligations, and regulations.
  • Comply with and support activities initiated by Audit & Cybersecurity Security personnel.
  • Drafts, recommends enhancements to, implements, monitors, and adheres to department and company policies, controls, and working practices.
  • Considers policy, security, and risk management impact when performing assigned duties.
  1. Assures the Department s risk is managed and minimized
  • Ensure adherence with contractual obligations, licensing terms, manufacturer requirements, and best practices based on published authoritative guidance.
  • During contract discussions, negotiates favorable business terms on behalf of the company.
  • Develop, maintain, and periodically test adherence to the Disaster Recovery Plan.
  • Assure that proper records and documents are created, maintained, and recoverable.
  • Monitors, prevents, and remediates of vulnerabilities in the IT Infrastructure portfolio.
  • Meets with vendors and advisory services to canvass suitable capabilities at competitive rates.

This role will perform all other appropriate functions as required.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline from an accredited college or university, with a minimum of five years of experience in system administration, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience administering virtualization platforms such as VMware (ESXi, vSphere), Microsoft Hyper V, Citrix Hypervisor, Nutanix AHV, and Linux KVM.
  • Proven experience with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policies, and email administration.
  • Hands-on experience managing Microsoft 365 services (Intune, Autopilot, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online).
  • Familiarity with cloud computing environments, such as Azure or AWS.
