Job Title: Cyber Security Research Engineer 3 / Senior Threat & Phishing Detection Engineer

Location: Charlotte, NC (preferred) / Chandler, AZ / McLean, VA - Hybrid (3 days onsite / 2 remote)

Contract Length:18mo (conversion possible)

Pay Rate: $60 - $65
Top Requirements:

4+ years of Information Security or Cyber Security Research experience

Experience with phishing detection, threat analysis, and incident response

Hands-on experience with Splunk (log analysis, search queries, investigation)

Plusses:

Experience with SIEM tools, IDS/IPS, and endpoint security solutions

Experience creating detection logic (regex, YARA rules)

Experience with DMARC, email security, or threat intelligence

Security certifications (GIAC or similar)

Experience in financial services or high-risk enterprise environments

Job Summary:

In this contingent resource assignment, you may: Consult on or participate in moderately complex initiatives and deliverables within Cyber Security Research and contribute to large-scale planning related to Cyber Security Research deliverables. Review and analyze moderately complex Cyber Security Research challenges requiring in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Contribute to the resolution of moderately complex issues while leveraging understanding of policies, procedures, and compliance requirements. Collaborate with client personnel in Cyber Security Research.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
Threat Detection & Analysis

• Review and correlate security logs using tools like Splunk
• Investigate phishing campaigns targeting customers and employees
• Develop detection logic and procedures to identify threat patterns

Incident Response & Forensics

• Participate in incident response activities for moderately complex security events
• Conduct technical investigations and post-incident forensic analysis
• Identify root causes and recommend mitigation strategies

Phishing & Threat Disruption

• Lead or support phishing disruption efforts across the enterprise
• Create or enhance detection content using regex, YARA rules, or similar methods
• Evaluate and improve defenses against email-based and social engineering attacks

Security Engineering & Solutions

• Support design and improvement of security solutions across network, application, and endpoint domains
• Recommend enhancements to detection, monitoring, and response capabilities
• Ensure compliance with enterprise security standards and policies

Risk & Vulnerability Management

• Identify vulnerabilities, conduct risk assessments, and recommend remediation actions
• Analyze trends and threats to proactively strengthen defenses

Collaboration & Communication

• Partner with security teams, engineering teams, and business stakeholders
• Communicate findings, risks, and recommendations clearly
• Contribute to continuous improvement of security operations and processes
