Description

Position Overview

SAIC is hiring a Part Time Systems Engineer to support the Electromagnetic Expeditionary Electronic Warfare Division at NSWC Crane. This part-time position is intended for an experienced engineer who can provide focused technical support in diagnostics, test execution, troubleshooting, and sustainment engineering. The engineer will work across hardware, software, and subsystem interfaces to support fault detection, failure isolation, and maintainability. The work schedule and hours will be based on program needs and may include test events, troubleshooting, documentation, and technical reviews.

Core Responsibilities
  • Support the design, integration, evaluation, and sustainment of BIT/BITE and diagnostic capabilities for mission systems, subsystems, and test assets.
  • Analyze system requirements and translate them into testable diagnostic functions, verification methods, and maintainability features.
  • Support laboratory and field testing, including test setup, execution, troubleshooting, discrepancy documentation, and post-test analysis.
  • Investigate system failures, anomalies, false rejects, and BIT-related issues to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
  • Review hardware, software, and firmware changes to assess impacts on testability, maintainability, and system readiness.
  • Assist with unit, integration, system, and regression testing related to diagnostics and BIT functions.
  • Support FMECA, FRACAS, reliability growth, maintainability demonstrations, and technical feedback analysis.
  • Work with engineering, software, logistics, and test teams to improve fault isolation, troubleshooting, and corrective action closure.
  • Contribute to test plans, procedures, reports, discrepancy records, engineering recommendations, and sustainment documentation.
  • Support interface analysis and system integration to ensure BIT functions properly across system components and operational configurations.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical discipline is required.
  • Candidates must have three or more years of professional experience in test engineering, systems engineering, diagnostics, hardware/software integration, or related technical work.
  • Experience supporting system-level troubleshooting, integration, and testing of electronic, RF, software-enabled, or mission-critical systems is required.
  • A strong understanding of system interfaces, diagnostic methods, fault isolation, and testability concepts is required.
  • Experience developing or executing technical test procedures and documenting results, failures, and corrective actions is required.
  • The position requires the ability to analyze technical data and communicate findings clearly.
  • Candidates must possess strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with BIT/BITE, built-in self-test, health monitoring, fault detection, or automated diagnostics is desirable.
  • Experience with FMECA, FRACAS, ESS, qualification testing, PRAT, or maintainability demonstrations is preferred.
  • Experience supporting mission systems, EW systems, tactical systems, radar, RF systems, or defense electronics is highly valued.
  • Familiarity with software/firmware verification, hardware-in-the-loop testing, or embedded system test support is desired.
  • Experience with engineering change reviews, configuration management, or discrepancy resolution is highly desirable.
  • The ability to work in secure laboratory environments and support field or range test events as required is preferred.
  • The position requires an active Secret security clearance.
