Job Title: Electrical Security Engineer IV
Job Location: Seattle, WA 98101
Job Duration: 12 Months Contract with an extension till 24 Months
Pay Rate: $100/hr to $106/hr
Job Description:
- Our client is seeking a seasoned Hardware Security Engineer to join a specialized, high-impact team focused on the physical integrity and privacy of next-generation consumer devices.
- As the client shifts toward an external manufacturing model, this team serves as the critical line of defense, ensuring that all third-party designs meet rigorous hardware security and privacy standards.
- This is a validation and assessment-focused role, not a design-heavy position. You will review schematics, analyze PCB layouts, and conduct hands-on lab testing on prototypes to identify vulnerabilities before they reach the consumer.
Core Responsibilities
Security Design Reviews: Evaluate schematic and PCB designs from external partners to identify potential security risks or "strange" defects.
Privacy Validation: Conduct rigorous testing of privacy-critical hardware behaviors, such as physical microphone cutoffs, isolation circuits, and secure boot sequences.
Hands-on Lab Testing: Utilize advanced lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters) to perform security-focused assessments on pre-production hardware.
Compliance & Quality: Sample manufactured products to ensure global suppliers are adhering to strict hardware security specifications.
Global Collaboration: Partner with internal security teams (including penetration testing units) and interface with engineering partners in the APAC region.
Documentation: Synthesize complex technical findings into clear reports for leadership and external stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
5+ Years of Experience: Proven background in hardware security, embedded systems security, or a closely related field.
Hardware Fundamentals: Strong ability to analyze circuit designs, PCB layouts, and electrical schematics.
Security Domain Expertise: Deep knowledge of threat modeling, secure boot, and cryptographic implementations (RSA, AES, HMAC, PQC).
Manufacturing Security: Familiarity with secure production flows, secret provisioning, and secret handling during manufacturing.
Lab Proficiency: Extensive hands-on experience using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and soldering tools for hardware debugging or "hacking."
Communication: Ability to engage effectively with global suppliers and provide technical consultation across time zones.
Education: Bachelor s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
Preferred Skills (Plusses)
Side-Channel Analysis: Knowledge of side-channel attacks and associated hardware countermeasures.
Advanced Security Protocols: Familiarity with JTAG/BDM interface security, anti-rollback mechanisms, and fault injection protection.
Programming: Proficiency in C, C++, or Rust for embedded systems.
Global Logistics: Experience working with external partners in the APAC region.
Security Clearances: Due to the nature of the facility and potential access to sensitive data, U.S. Person status is preferred.
What Success Looks Like:
- We are looking for a candidate who embodies a Bias for Action and a commitment to Delivering Results.
- The ideal engineer is someone who doesn't just understand the theory of security but enjoys the hands-on process of validating it.
Note: This role requires a dedicated hardware security background. Candidates with purely software, cloud, or general cybersecurity backgrounds without physical hardware lab experience will not be considered.
