Information Architect – Intranet Transformation
Contract: 10-month W2 (via Russell Tobin)
Location: Hybrid – 3 days onsite | New York, NY 10036
Pay Rate: $30–$36/hour (depending on experience)
Russell Tobin is partnering with a global professional services organization to support a large-scale intranet transformation initiative. We are seeking an experienced Information Architect to help modernize a legacy intranet environment and improve how colleagues find, use, and engage with content across the organization.
This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in Information Architecture, UX, and Information Science who enjoys untangling complex content ecosystems and designing intuitive, scalable structures.
Position Overview
As an Information Architect on the intranet transformation team, you will play a critical role in redesigning the structure of a global corporate intranet that is over 11 years old and spans 400+ sites. You will focus on understanding colleague and business needs, improving findability and usability, and helping shape a modern, user-centered intranet experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct colleague research to understand user needs, behaviors, and content usage
- Analyze and redesign the information architecture of a large, legacy intranet
- Create and maintain navigation models, site maps, taxonomies, and content structures
- Develop wireframes and navigation concepts to guide design and development teams
- Define naming conventions and metadata schemas to improve content clarity and findability
- Partner closely with UX designers, content owners, developers, and stakeholders
- Test new and innovative ways of presenting intranet content
- Conduct usability testing and incorporate feedback into IA improvements
- Document architecture decisions and present complex information clearly to stakeholders
- Support modernization efforts, including the integration of AI-driven tagging and content recommendations
- Ensure solutions align with governance, compliance, accessibility, and organizational standards
- Ensure the intranet experience works seamlessly across devices and platforms

- UX and user-centered design tools
- Intranet and content management platforms (SharePoint Online / Microsoft 365 preferred)
Required Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as an Information Architect, ideally within intranet or enterprise environments
- Strong foundation in Information Architecture principles, UX, and content strategy
- Experience working with large, complex content ecosystems
- Ability to collect, analyze, and present information clearly and persuasively
- Proficiency creating site maps, wireframes, navigation flows, and taxonomies
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional and global teams
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to present complex concepts to diverse audiences
- Familiarity with usability testing methods and accessibility best practices
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in UX or closely related disciplines
- Degree in Information Science, Library Science, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field
- Experience working in agile environments
- Exposure to AI-enabled content optimization or metadata automation
