Job Summary
The Lead Accountant / Accounting Manager is responsible for independently owning complex accounting areas and leading end-to-end accounting processes across the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close. This position places a strong emphasis on leveraging systems, automation, and emerging technologies including AI-enabled tools to streamline accounting workflows, improve accuracy, and scale processes. The role may include review of work outputs generated by automation or AI-assisted processes, requiring strong professional judgment, controls mindset, and accountability for results.
Reporting Structure and Work Setting
This role typically reports to an Accounting Manager or Director of Accounting and works collaboratively with cross-functional partners including Finance Systems, Payroll, Treasury, FP&A, and Internal Audit. This position is typically performed in a remote work environment.
Essential Duties and Primary Responsibilities
Own assigned accounting areas and oversee all related activities during monthly, quarterly, and year-end close, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of deliverables.
Prepare complex journal entries and review automated journal entries or journals completed by accountants. Oversee account reconciliations in accordance with US GAAP and company policies.
Manage fixed asset accounting, including capitalization policy application, depreciation, disposals, impairments, system configuration, and reconciliations.
Oversee cash and bank reconciliation processes, including review of reconciling items, investigation of variances, and coordination with Treasury and Operations teams.
Oversee payroll accounting activities, including review of payroll journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and coordination with Payroll and HR functions.
Perform and review detailed flux, variance, and trend analysis, clearly explaining financial results and business drivers to management.
Design, maintain, and execute SOX controls for assigned processes, including ownership of process narratives, risk assessments, control documentation, walkthroughs, and remediation activities.
Lead accounting process optimization initiatives, identifying opportunities to automate, standardize, and scale workflows using system capabilities and emerging technologies.
Leverage AI-enabled tools and automation solutions to streamline reconciliations, close activities, variance analysis, and audit support, while performing appropriate review and validation of AI-generated outputs.
Own and support accounting system functionality related to assigned processes, including NetSuite modules and integrations.
Provide review and quality assurance over work performed by automated tools, AI workflows, or junior accounting staff, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal controls.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
Participate in special projects including system implementations, process redesigns, and integration initiatives.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the Controllership organization.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
Bachelor s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
7+ years of progressively responsible experience in public accounting and/or industry accounting, preferably within a publicly traded company.
CPA strongly preferred.
Experience operating at an Accounting Lead or Accounting Manager level in an individual contributor capacity is highly desirable.

Specialized Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Deep knowledge of US GAAP, general ledger accounting, and SOX/internal control requirements.
Demonstrated experience owning complex accounting areas such as fixed assets, cash, payroll, and full-cycle GL close.
Strong experience with NetSuite ERP; experience with NetSuite Account Reconciliation (NSAR) is a plus.
Experience with Treasury Management Systems such as Kyriba is a plus.
Proven experience driving system implementations, automation initiatives, and process redesign within accounting.
Strong interest and hands-on experience leveraging AI, automation tools, and advanced reporting solutions to improve efficiency, quality, and scalability of accounting processes.
Ability to review, validate, and apply professional judgment to outputs generated by AI-enabled tools and automated workflows.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and comfort working with large data sets and system-generated reports.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional partners in a remote environment.
