Role Overview
A Senior Risk Mitigation Engineer is required to join our team to identify, evaluate, prioritize, manage, mitigate, and resolve technology risks across enterprise productivity platforms, including Microsoft 365, Exchange, and SharePoint. This professional will own first-line risk outcomes from initial engagement through evidence-based closure, ensuring that residual risk, control effectiveness, dependencies, and remediation status are accurately communicated. This position combines risk-management judgment with hands-on engineering knowledge to evaluate controls, define corrective actions, coordinate remediation, and validate results. Successful candidates must interact directly with stakeholders across security, compliance, data, engineering, architecture, operations, and risk governance teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage technology risk mitigation engineering across the productivity engineering portfolio.
- Perform risk assessments and prioritize remediation activities based on business impact and risk exposure.
- Develop and execute remediation strategies that address root causes and reduce residual risk.
- Evaluate and validate the effectiveness of security, operational, and recovery controls.
- Lead the implementation of engineering solutions to improve security, compliance, and operational resilience.
- Govern issue management, exception processes, and risk acceptance activities.
- Establish risk monitoring, reporting, metrics, and executive governance frameworks.
- Support audits, regulatory reviews, and control examinations through evidence-based validation.
- Strengthen platform resilience, recovery readiness, and technology lifecycle management.
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, cybersecurity, engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
Experience: Seven or more years of relevant experience in enterprise technology engineering, infrastructure, operations, cybersecurity, or technology risk. Five or more years of hands-on experience supporting enterprise productivity, collaboration, messaging, or information-protection services is required.
Technical Skills: Proven experience conducting risk assessments, evaluating control design, testing operating effectiveness, documenting evidence, and determining residual risk. Candidates must possess hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 and meaningful experience with at least three of the following: Exchange Server Subscription Edition, SharePoint Server Subscription Edition, Splunk Enterprise or Splunk Enterprise Security, email hygiene/routing/authentication platforms, Microsoft Defender for Office 365, or Microsoft Purview. The ability to interpret logs, alerts, configurations, technical designs, test results, and architecture diagrams is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong analytical and systems-thinking capabilities.
- Proven ability to apply sound risk-based judgment and constructively challenge technical processes.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex technical risks to engineering teams and executive leadership.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate and resolve conflicts across matrixed organizations.
- Experience in precision-based and evidence-based decision-making.
