Database Developer

Description

We are looking for a highly experienced Database Developer to support a healthcare research organization on a short-term Contract assignment based in Boston, Massachusetts. This role is focused on hands-on PostgreSQL development and is best suited for an experienced specialist who brings deep database expertise rather than generalist application experience. The engagement will contribute to an active project and requires someone who can deliver quickly in a fully remote environment.

Responsibilities:
Design, build, and refine PostgreSQL database solutions that support project goals within a healthcare-focused research setting.
Create and optimize database queries, stored objects, and related structures to improve reliability, efficiency, and overall performance.
Evaluate existing database environments and recommend practical enhancements for scalability, monitoring, and day-to-day operations.
Support database administration activities, including performance tuning, mirroring considerations, and operational stability across cloud or hosted platforms.
Partner with project stakeholders to translate technical needs into effective database designs and development deliverables.
Contribute to database migration or environment change efforts when needed as part of the active project scope.
Use tools such as pgAdmin and related PostgreSQL utilities to troubleshoot issues, manage objects, and maintain database health.

Requirements

3+ years of PostgreSQL database development experience, with clear senior-level capability in hands-on delivery.
Strong background in database development, including query writing, schema design, and performance optimization.
Experience working with PostgreSQL administration and support tasks in production or project-based environments.
Familiarity with database monitoring, database operations, and troubleshooting across complex systems.
Knowledge of cloud database environments and best practices for reliability and maintainability.
Ability to support database migration, mirroring, or related implementation activities when project needs require it.
Prior exposure to MySQL is helpful, along with the ability to work effectively in a fully remote, short-term contract engagement.
