Position Summary: The Test Engineer II is responsible for assisting in and independently developing new and editing existing test plans as well as developing test fixtures in the execution of medium to highly complex test projects. The Test Engineer II is a mid-level position that draws on prior Engineering experience and technical and creative skills to support the execution of test processes on firearm systems. Firearms experience required. The Test Engineer II will collaborate with other departments including Product Management and Operations, as well as members of the Test & Evaluation department and Research & Development.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Safely and effectively operate test equipment according to manuals, work instructions, or industry standards.
  • Follow documented and verbal test plans, interpret test standards, document raw test data, and create written test reports to SIG SAUER Inc. standards with little to no support.
  • Independently develop new and edit existing written test plans based on statistical and quality assurance principles to validate product design or manufacturing quality.
  • Participate in, or leads, test plan reviews to ensure test intent is met prior to the start of testing.
  • Analyze and present test data using statistics to assist the Design Engineering team and executive leadership decision making process.
  • Research technology to create test methods to fill gaps in Research & Development departmental test capacity.
  • Design, create drawings for, and build fixtures for testing firearms, ammunition, or firearm subassemblies with little to no support.
  • Create item numbers, change orders, and documents in Agile PLM.
  • Engage in and actively volunteer for Continuous Improvement projects/tasks.
  • Communicate effectively to supervision regarding problems and corrective action.
  • Participate in and sustain 5S Standards.
  • Must follow all required Safety and ISO procedures.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Education/Experience & Skills:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering that supports the area of specialty required and a minimum of 3-6 years of experience in an Engineering role required.
  • Experience identifying and troubleshooting common firearm malfunctions is preferred.
  • Experience using and maintaining firearms is required.
  • Pistol, rifle, and shotgun training certifications from a recognized firearms academy preferred.
  • Maintain range certification while always handling and shooting firearms in accordance with SIG SAUER Inc. policy.
  • Maintain qualifications to act as a Range Safety Officer to include passing First Aid and Trauma Management classes.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), experience creating LabVIEW or MATLAB programs and reducing collected test data required. Experience analyzing statistical data using Minitab is required. Must have experience using a PLM system (Agile preferred).
  • Must be able to clearly, concisely, and accurately convey ideas and information to others, both verbally and in written form.
  • Ability to work independently and regularly as part of a team.
  • Ability to complete tasks as assigned in a timely manner and require little supervision to identify additional tasking.

Working Conditions:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer using a keyboard and mouse performing repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to open file cabinets, reach with hands and arms, bend, and twist, lift and move files.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
  • Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. Security Mandates.
