Senior Network and Systems Engineer
Type: Direct Hire
Location: East Syracuse, NY (must currently reside in/near the area)
Schedule: 8-5 EST, Monday-Friday; on call/after-hours rotation as required
Travel: 50% around Capital Region, Central, and Western, New York
Remote/Onsite/Hybrid: After 90 days fully in office, 20% remote can be earned; travel schedule remains in place

Job Summary
The Senior Network & Systems Engineer serves as a technical leader within the Engineering team and is responsible for the design, implementation, optimization, and support of complex client and internal infrastructure environments. This role combines advanced networking, systems administration, virtualization, cybersecurity, cloud technologies, and project delivery expertise.
The ideal candidate possesses deep technical knowledge, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to lead infrastructure projects while serving as a mentor for junior engineers and escalation resource for the Service Desk. This individual will help drive technical standards, operational excellence, security best practices, and long-term infrastructure modernization initiatives across client environments.
Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure Design & Engineering
• Design, implement, and maintain complex server, storage, virtualization, network, and cloud environments.
• Lead infrastructure modernization initiatives, migrations, and strategic technology projects.
• Develop scalable, resilient, and secure architectures that align with client business objectives.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions that improve security, performance, and operational efficiency.
Network Administration & Security
• Design and support enterprise networking solutions including:
o Firewalls
o Routers
o Switches
o Wireless infrastructure
o VPN solutions
o Network segmentation/VLANs
• Monitor network health, availability, and performance.
• Lead remediation efforts related to cybersecurity risks and infrastructure vulnerabilities.
• Assist with security assessments, compliance initiatives, and business continuity planning.
Systems Administration
• Administer and maintain:
o Windows Server environments
o Active Directory
o Group Policy
o DNS/DHCP
o Microsoft 365
o Azure AD / Entra ID
o Intune
o Hybrid cloud environments
• Manage virtualization technologies including VMware and Hyper-V.
• Support backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions.
Project Leadership
• Lead infrastructure deployments, migrations, upgrades, and remediation projects.
• Provide technical oversight and quality assurance for engineering work.
• Collaborate with Project Management, Service Desk, and vCIO teams throughout project lifecycles.
• Produce project documentation, implementation plans, and technical standards.
Escalation & Problem Resolution
• Act as a Tier 3/4 escalation resource for complex technical issues.
• Perform root cause analysis on recurring or high-impact incidents.
• Develop permanent solutions that improve system reliability and reduce recurring support tickets.
• Participate in on-call and after-hours maintenance rotations as required.
Technical Leadership
• Mentor and coach Network Administrators, Systems Administrators, and Service Desk personnel.
• Contribute to internal standards, SOPs, and best-practice documentation.
• Provide technical guidance during client onboarding, audits, and strategic planning sessions.
• Assist leadership with technical roadmap development and infrastructure standardization.
Required Qualifications
• 7+ years of progressive experience in systems engineering, network engineering, or infrastructure administration.
• Advanced knowledge of:
o Windows Server (2019/2022)
o Active Directory
o DNS/DHCP
o Group Policy
o Microsoft 365
o Azure/Entra ID
o Intune
• Strong experience with:
o VMware vSphere
o Hyper-V
o Enterprise storage platforms
o Backup and disaster recovery solutions
• Advanced networking expertise including:
o TCP/IP
o VLANs
o Routing
o Switching
o Firewall administration
o VPN technologies
• Strong PowerShell scripting and automation experience.
• Experience supporting hybrid cloud environments.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
• Proven ability to lead projects and mentor technical staff.
