VMware Cloud on AWS (VMC on AWS) SDDC Subject Matter Expert

 Job Description: 
We are seeking a highly skilled VMware Cloud on AWS (VMC on AWS) SDDC Subject Matter Expert with deep expertise in VMware hybrid cloud technologies. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the architecture, deployment, administration, troubleshooting, and operational support of VMware Cloud on AWS environments, with strong experience across vSphere, NSX-T, vSAN, HCX, and VMware Cloud Foundation.

Key Responsibilities

Architecture & Deployment

• Design, deploy, and manage VMware Cloud on AWS (VMC) Software-Defined Data Center (SDDC) environments.

• Architect and implement NSX-T solutions, including:

  • Distributed Firewall (DFW)

  • Micro-segmentation

  • Tier-0 and Tier-1 routing

  • NAT, VPN, and load balancing

• Plan and execute workload migrations using HCX:

  • Bulk Migration

  • HCX vMotion

  • Replication Assisted vMotion (RAV)

  • Cold Migration

• Integrate on-premises VMware environments with AWS services such as:

  • VPC

  • Direct Connect

  • Transit Gateway (TGW)

  • IAM

• Evaluate, test, and implement upgrades, patches, and platform enhancements across the VMware ecosystem.

Operations & Troubleshooting

• Provide expert-level troubleshooting and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for:

  • vSphere

  • ESXi

  • vCenter Server

  • vSAN

  • NSX-T

  • HCX

  • vRealize Suite (vRA, vROps, vRLI)

  • Site Recovery Manager (SRM)

  • Replication technologies

• Support day-to-day operations of hybrid cloud environments spanning on-premises and VMware Cloud on AWS.

• Monitor and optimize infrastructure performance, capacity, availability, and reliability.

• Ensure platform stability through proactive maintenance and operational best practices.

Collaboration & Governance

• Collaborate with cloud, network, security, and infrastructure teams to support hybrid cloud initiatives.

• Develop and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, architecture diagrams, and operational procedures.

• Participate in architecture reviews and provide SME guidance for cloud transformation and modernization projects.

• Establish and promote VMware operational standards and best practices.

Required Skills & Experience

• Expert-level experience with:

  • VMware vSphere

  • ESXi

  • vCenter Server

  • vSAN

  • vMotion

• Strong hands-on expertise with VMware NSX-T, including:

  • Routing (Tier-0/Tier-1)

  • Distributed Firewall (DFW)

  • Micro-segmentation

  • NAT

  • VPN

  • BGP/OSPF

• Deep understanding of VMware Cloud on AWS (VMC) architecture, deployment, and operations.

• Extensive experience with HCX migration technologies and workload mobility strategies.

• Strong networking fundamentals:

  • TCP/IP

  • VLANs

  • BGP

  • OSPF

  • VPN

  • NAT

• Proven experience performing advanced troubleshooting and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) across VMware platforms.

• Solid understanding of virtualization, compute, storage, and data center infrastructure concepts.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Azure VMware Solution (AVS).

• VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) deployment and lifecycle management experience.

• Familiarity with:

  • Carbon Black

  • vRealize Automation (vRA)

  • vRealize Operations (vROps)

  • vRealize Log Insight (vRLI)

• Working knowledge of AWS services:

  • VPC

  • EC2

  • Direct Connect

  • Transit Gateway (TGW)

  • IAM

• Experience with Site Recovery Manager (SRM) and disaster recovery planning.

• VMware certifications preferred:

  • VCP

  • VCAP

  • VCIX

  • VCDX
