Level Description
This role requires 10+ years of experience and the ability to plan and accomplish goals independently. The individual will perform advanced and complex database administration tasks and may lead or direct the work of others. A high degree of initiative, technical expertise, and independent judgment is expected.
Job Description
The Senior Database Administrator will be responsible for advanced database administration activities supporting enterprise applications with complex data models, workflows, and reporting requirements. This role will focus heavily on database optimization, cloud migration, and integration with modern application environments.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Oracle databases, cloud platforms (Azure/AWS), and performance tuning, along with the ability to support full lifecycle database management in an Agile environment.
Primary Responsibilities
- Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain Oracle databases and related infrastructure, ensuring high availability and performance
- Lead migration of on-premise databases to cloud environments (Oracle DB@Azure), including separation of BLOB storage into Azure Blob Storage
- Transition and optimize batch processes (e.g., cron jobs) into Oracle Database Jobs
- Monitor database performance and proactively identify and resolve bottlenecks
- Implement monitoring tools to track database health, storage, and performance metrics
- Manage backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies to ensure system integrity and availability
- Administer Oracle GoldenGate for data replication and integration
- Develop and enforce database architecture standards, policies, and best practices
- Collaborate with development teams supporting multi-tier and full-stack applications in cloud environments
- Support database design, data modeling, and system integration efforts
- Create and maintain technical and functional documentation
Minimum Requirements (Skills & Experience)
- 10+ years of experience in database administration
- 8+ years of experience working with Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server
- 8+ years of experience in database design, analysis, and performance tuning
- 8+ years of experience designing enterprise applications and/or services
- 8+ years of experience creating technical and functional design documentation
- 8+ years of experience working within the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) using Agile methodologies (Scrum preferred)
- 8+ years of experience with multi-tier application architecture (SOA, microservices, or 3-tier applications)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with ETL processes and integrating data into Azure SQL
- Experience managing large-scale databases, high availability, and disaster recovery environments
- Experience adapting database structures for cloud environments (Azure preferred)
- Experience with Power BI configuration and reporting
- Experience with DevOps tools, CI/CD pipelines, and version control (e.g., Git)
- Experience migrating on-premise databases to cloud platforms (Azure preferred)
- Azure certifications and/or DBA certifications are a plus
