Summary

The Windows Server Engineer (L3) is a senior technical role responsible for designing, implementing, optimizing, and supporting enterprise level Windows Server infrastructure. This engineer handles major incidents, deep troubleshooting, automation, lifecycle management, and provides guidance to L1/L2 teams. The role requires extensive expertise across Active Directory, DNS/DHCP, DFS, Group Policy, virtualization, clustering, security, and Microsoft infrastructure services.

Technical Skills

  • Key Responsibilities

    • Install, configure, and manage Windows Server 2016/2019/2022 environments.

    • Perform OS hardening, patching, and lifecycle management.

    • Manage server roles such as AD DS, DNS, DHCP, Distributed File Services, IIS, Print Services, etc.

    • Design and manage Group Policies, OU structures, and access control.

    • Support ADFS, Azure AD Connect, and SSO integrations.

    • Build and support Windows Failover Clusters.

    • Manage Hyper-V, cluster shared volumes (CSV), and storage configurations.

    • Troubleshoot high availability, quorum, and cluster resource issues.

    • Administer Hyper-V and VMware vSphere environments (preferred).

    • Implement and monitor server security baselines and hardening policies.

    • Manage BitLocker, Windows Defender, firewall rules, and auditing.

    • Ensure compliance with organizational standards (SOX, HIPAA, PCI, etc.).

    • Create scripts using PowerShell for automation, reporting, and configuration tasks.

    • Tune performance for CPU, memory, disk I/O, and network bottlenecks.

    • Manage monitoring tools such as SCOM, SolarWinds, LogicMonitor, etc.

    • Serve as Level 3 escalation for critical and complex server issues.

    • Perform root cause analysis (RCA/PCA).

    • Implement preventive measures and improve processes.

    • Participate in 24x7 on call rotation as required.

    • Prepare SOPs, architecture diagrams, knowledge articles, and change documentation.

    • Mentor L1/L2 teams and provide technical leadership across projects

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 8+ years of hands on experience in enterprise Windows Server environments.

  • Expert knowledge of:

  • Windows Server OS (2016 2022)

  • Active Directory, DNS, DHCP

  • Group Policy

  • Failover Clustering

  • PowerShell automation

  • Strong understanding of:

  • TCP/IP networking

  • PKI / Certificates

  • Storage (SAN/NAS)

  • VMware and Hyper-V

  • Other Requirements:

  • Understanding of TCP/IP, SAN/NAS, and storage protocols.

  • Windows Server Administration Certification is preferred.

  • Working experience on ServiceNow.

  • ITSM Best Practices.

  • HealthCare industry experience is a plus.

  • Knowledge of data center operations and best practices.

  • A team player with a positive attitude and excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to understand and comply with business processes and procedures

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Collaboration with cross-functional teams between onshore and offshore.
