Job Summary
The Senior Engineer can work independently, participates and represents AVANGRID on Industry associations. Applies established engineering criteria and uses sound utility engineering practices to identify deficiencies in substation design and actively solves them. Assists Project Managers, Construction Managers and Engineers in substation design, design reviews, construction activities and shares their knowledge in their area of expertise. Acts as a technical leader in the Substation Projects group to direct, oversee and mentor other Engineers in the Department.
Key Responsibilities
Solve complex and unique design issues to set projects up for success for their entire project lifecycle (i.e. conceptual design, estimating, permitting, detailed design, material/equipment procurement, construction, testing & commissioning, and close out).
Proposes solutions for identified issues that fall outside of established design criteria, including recommendations for new substation design criteria and technical manual and specification improvements.
Develop alternative methods or design concepts to resolve unique problems or to improve processes/services.
Anticipates internal/external business issues and/or threats and recommends process
improvements.
Recognized expert for projects of importance to AVANGRID.
Manage divisional and company-wide projects/studies/initiatives, serve as SME on assigned demonstration projects, initiatives, and teams across AVANGRID.
Lead teams and acts as experienced mentor.
Reviews engineering work of others in the department.
Manage and provide direction to resources outside the department.
Proficient at utilizing computer aided design tools for effective substation design and
communication.
Perform complex engineering analyses related to substation design.
Assists during storm restoration.
Leads teams/projects or program initiatives
Ability to manage portions of a project, such as material procurement.
Ability to solely manage outside engineering firms to drive design and compliance.
Required Qualifications
BS Degree in Engineering
5+ years of relevant experience
Experience in Structural Design
Direct experience in the electrical utility industry
Possesses broad knowledge of internal/external business, regulatory issues and permitting of projects at the local, state and federal levels
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced Degree and/or PE License and/or PMP certification
