Job Description Our client in the life sciences and biotech space is hiring for a Senior Backend Engineer. The company is building a cloud-based procurement platform that helps research organizations streamline purchasing, payments, and financial workflows. The platform is designed specifically for biotech and research teams, enabling faster operations and more efficient spend management through modern, scalable software solutions.
This is a high-impact backend engineering role where you'll help scale a product used by scientists, finance teams, and growing biotech companies. You'll work on core platform architecture, build reliable APIs and services, and contribute to a system that directly supports scientific discovery and operational efficiency.
This is a hybrid role in Burlington, MA.
Required Skills & Experience - 5+ years of backend engineering experience in a production environment
- Strong proficiency in one or more backend languages (e.g., Python, Java, or similar)
- Experience building and maintaining RESTful APIs and distributed systems
- Solid understanding of relational databases and data modeling
- Experience working in cloud-based environments (AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Azure)
- Familiarity with system design, scalability, and performance optimization
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
Desired Skills & Experience - Experience working in SaaS or B2B platform environments
- Exposure to fintech, procurement systems, or workflow-based applications
- Familiarity with ERP integrations or financial systems
- Experience with microservices architecture
- Knowledge of security best practices (SOC2, data protection, etc.)
- Prior experience in startup or high-growth environments
- Interest in biotech, life sciences, or healthcare technology
