DEVOPS ENGINEER

Location: Chicago, IL or Irving, TX

Work Model: Hybrid – 3 days onsite per week

Duration: 12 months

Key Responsibilities

Kubernetes & Amazon EKS

•Build, administer, monitor, and troubleshoot production Kubernetes/EKS environments.

•Manage cluster upgrades, patching, node recycling, and maintenance.

•Configure autoscaling using Karpenter, Cluster Autoscaler, HPA, and VPA.

•Develop and maintain Helm charts for application deployments.

•Manage container networking and ingress using VPC CNI, ALB, NGINX, or Traefik.

AWS Cloud Infrastructure

•Design, administer, and support AWS cloud infrastructure.

•Work with EC2, VPC, IAM, S3, Route53, RDS, and related AWS services.

•Implement secure, scalable, and highly available cloud solutions.

•Manage Kubernetes pod permissions using AWS IAM Roles for Service Accounts (IRSA).

CI/CD & GitHub Actions

•Design and optimize GitHub Actions workflows for CI/CD and automated testing.

•Develop reusable workflows and custom GitHub Actions.

•Manage GitHub Secrets, Environments, deployment keys, and secure variables.

•Implement OIDC with AWS IAM for secure GitHub-to-AWS authentication.

•Support self-hosted or cloud-hosted GitHub Actions runners.

Infrastructure as Code & Automation

•Provision and manage cloud infrastructure using Terraform or AWS CDK.

•Develop automation using Python and/or Bash.

•Eliminate manual processes through reliable infrastructure automation.

GitOps & Container Management

•Implement and maintain GitOps deployment frameworks using ArgoCD or Flux.

•Manage Docker builds, multi-stage images, and AWS ECR.

•Support container vulnerability management and secure deployment practices.

Required Qualifications

•5+ years of professional experience in DevOps, SRE, or cloud infrastructure roles.

•3+ years of hands-on Kubernetes/EKS experience supporting production environments.

•5+ years of hands-on AWS experience.

•3+ years of practical GitHub Actions experience, including workflow development and automation.

•Strong experience with Terraform and Python or Bash.

•Demonstrated experience building, administering, monitoring, and troubleshooting production infrastructure.

•Strong communication and collaboration skills with software engineering teams.

Preferred Qualifications

•Experience managing enterprise-scale self-hosted GitHub Actions runners on Kubernetes.

•Experience with Actions Runner Controller (ARC).

•Experience with ArgoCD or Flux, Helm, Docker, ECR, and Kubernetes autoscaling.

•CKA, CKAD, or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer Professional certification is a plus.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate has deep, hands-on experience with Kubernetes and AWS, followed by strong GitHub/GitHub Actions experience. Terraform and scripting are important supporting skills, but hands-on Kubernetes and AWS experience should receive the highest priority.
