Job Title: Database Architect

Location: Hamilton, NJ (Hybrid – 3 Days Onsite / 2 Days Remote)
Interview Type: iLinc Web Cam or In-Person (Round 1 must be In-Person)

Job Summary

The Database Architect will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing highly complex, reliable, and scalable database solutions. This is a hands-on role focused on database modeling, development, migration, and performance optimization.

The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in SQL Server, cloud platforms, and large-scale data migration, along with the ability to work independently and provide architectural guidance.

Required Qualifications

Technical Skills

  • 10+ years of Database Administration experience
  • 8+ years of SQL Server (2019/2022) experience
  • Advanced T-SQL (stored procedures, triggers, functions, views)
  • Strong expertise in database design and normalization (1NF–5NF)
  • Query optimization and execution plan analysis
  • SQL Server security, backup, and recovery strategies
  • Experience with SQL Server Agent and job scheduling

 

High Availability & DR

  • Always On Availability Groups
  • Database mirroring, replication, and log shipping
  • Failover clustering
  • Disaster recovery planning and testing
  • Point-in-time recovery

 

Performance Tuning

  • Query and index optimization
  • Execution plan analysis and wait statistics
  • Deadlock and blocking resolution
  • Resource Governor, memory, CPU, and I/O tuning
  • Performance tools (SQL Profiler, Extended Events, DMVs)

 

Cloud Experience

  • 3+ years with AWS RDS for SQL Server or Azure SQL
  • Cloud security, monitoring, and backup strategies
  • Cost optimization in cloud environments

 

Data Migration

  • Experience with large-scale migrations (500GB+)
  • ETL tools (SSIS, Azure Data Factory, AWS DMS)
  • Data validation and transformation
  • Legacy to relational database conversion

 

Scripting & Automation

  • PowerShell and T-SQL scripting
  • CI/CD for database deployments
  • GitHub or other version control systems
  • Automated testing frameworks

 

Professional Experience

  • Experience with mission-critical systems (99.9% uptime)
  • Experience in high-transaction environments (50K+ transactions/day)
  • Participation in database modernization projects
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments

 

Key Responsibilities

Database Architecture & Design (30%)

  • Design SQL Server database architecture
  • Develop normalized schemas (1NF–5NF) across multiple databases
  • Design data partitioning strategies for large datasets (50M+ records)
  • Create database security architecture
  • Design audit trails and history tracking mechanisms
  • Define backup and recovery architecture
  • Implement high availability and disaster recovery solutions

 

Data Migration (25%)

  • Develop and execute large-scale data migration strategies (500GB+)
  • Create ETL processes (SSIS, Azure Data Factory, AWS DMS)
  • Ensure data validation, integrity, and zero data loss
  • Develop data mapping documentation
  • Create rollback and recovery strategies
  • Perform data cleansing and quality assessment
  • Build migration scripts and automation

 

Performance Optimization (20%)

  • Design indexing strategies and optimize queries for performance
  • Tune stored procedures, functions, and execution plans
  • Resolve performance bottlenecks (blocking, deadlocks)
  • Implement caching and partitioning strategies
  • Optimize batch processing (reduce 6-hour window to 4 hours)
  • Conduct performance testing and benchmarking

 

Database Administration (15%)

  • Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server instances
  • Manage database users, roles, and permissions
  • Monitor database health and performance
  • Implement backup, recovery, and maintenance plans
  • Manage database growth and capacity planning
  • Troubleshoot database issues and coordinate with cloud teams

 

High Availability & Disaster Recovery (10%)

  • Implement Always On Availability Groups
  • Configure replication, log shipping, and failover clustering
  • Achieve RPO < 1 hour and RTO < 1 hour
  • Design and test disaster recovery procedures
  • Implement automated failover mechanisms
  • Document DR processes and runbooks
