Position Overview

The Autonomous Haulage Application team is responsible for the vehicle-level onboard solution for autonomous hauling machines. This position will work under the direction of the System Integration Lead and contribute to the design, integration, troubleshooting, and delivery of autonomous vehicle systems.

The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional hardware, software, validation, and systems teams to evaluate technical solutions, analyze risks and benefits, document system designs, and support implementation and validation activities.

Required Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of robotics and autonomous systems fundamentals.

  • Experience with autonomous or automated robotic systems.

  • Experience working with robotic hardware, electronic systems, and vehicle-level architectures.

  • Knowledge of engineering development processes and system integration methodologies.

  • Experience with requirements decomposition and solution development.

  • Ability to evaluate technical alternatives and perform risk, benefit, and tradeoff analysis.

  • Strong system-level troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.

  • Experience creating technical design documentation and engineering specifications.

  • Ability to translate system-level solutions into actionable development and delivery work items.

  • Strong collaboration skills with multidisciplinary engineering teams.


Preferred Technical Skills

  • Experience with mining, construction, agricultural, or other heavy equipment/machinery systems.

  • Experience with autonomous vehicle or industrial technology products.

  • Understanding of the product development lifecycle.

  • Experience with data analysis, issue investigation, and root cause analysis.

  • Familiarity with safety standards and frameworks such as Functional Safety and SOTIF.

  • Experience with simulation tools used for development, testing, or validation.

  • Working knowledge of C++ and Python.

  • Experience developing or troubleshooting systems in a Linux environment.

  • Familiarity with vehicle communication protocols including CAN and Ethernet.


Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to onboard autonomous system architecture, design decisions, and vehicle-level integration.

  • Design and support electronic and network architectures for autonomy technology platforms used across autonomous hauling products.

  • Work with the System Integration Lead, engineering teams, process partners, and subject matter experts to identify and evaluate potential technical solutions.

  • Analyze new requirements and system issues to determine appropriate engineering solutions.

  • Perform technical tradeoff, risk, and benefit analysis before recommending system changes.

  • Break down system-level requirements and proposed solutions into clearly defined, actionable engineering work items.

  • Document selected system designs, technical decisions, interfaces, assumptions, and implementation requirements.

  • Coordinate design implementation with hardware, software, component, development, and validation teams.

  • Coordinate hardware availability and dependencies across component and engineering teams.

  • Support delivery teams throughout implementation and system integration activities.

  • Work closely with validation teams during development of test strategies and validation plans.

  • Support system testing, issue investigation, and validation activities in laboratory and vehicle environments.

  • Triage, troubleshoot, and resolve system-level hardware, software, networking, and integration issues.

  • Analyze system data to identify performance issues, design limitations, and potential improvements.

  • Support system integration activities throughout the development and product lifecycle.

  • Ensure technical solutions align with overall autonomous platform requirements, safety considerations, and product objectives.
