Duration: 12 month w2 Contract (potential to extend up to 2.5 years)


Location: Hybrid Onsite: Richardson, Texas 75081Shift: M-F 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM (9-hour shift)


Are you a seasoned Transport Engineer who thrives on turning complex capacity requirements into reality? We are looking for a high-level Transport Engineer IV to drive US domestic network transport builds across both ULH and OTN Mesh networks.


If you have extensive logical knowledge of SONET and Long-Distance transport systems, and you're ready to lead, innovate, and mentor, we want to hear from you!


After receiving market-level plans, customer capacity requirements and internal transport requirements the transport engineer is responsible for timely creation and action on individual Capacity Creation Requests (CCRs) to initiate US domestic network transport builds across both ULH and OTN Mesh networks.


Applicant must have extensive logical (not physical) knowledge of SONET and Long-Distance transport systems


What we are looking for...


Bachelor of Science Engineering degree and 5-10 years progressive technical experience designing SONET and Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) transport systems and drawing complex system diagrams using Visio.


Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communications as well as competent computer skills.


The ability to learn the nuances of the position, absorb and eventually teach others that join the team , A natural ability to lead others when called upon.


Strong organizational and time-management skills, self-starter, professionally driven, ability to meet deadlines, and comfortable working in fast-paced, dynamic settings.


Job Skills :


Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.


Demonstrates excellent verbal, written, analytical and communication skills .


Candidate must demonstrate an ability to work with others, be flexible as priorities change, and be sensitive to deadlines and customer needs.

responsibilities:

Network Engineering & Capacity Management

  • Effectively initiate and engineer network projects based on a strong understanding of the transport network.
  • Perform planning, forecasting, and capacity monitoring of LD/ULH Transport network infrastructure and equipment on a regular basis.
  • Support LD transport capacity requirements to support the full suite of products and customers (both internal and external).
  • Perform capacity research analysis, initiate projects based on customer requirements, and create diversification projects based on user group requirements.
  • Perform wavelength rearrangements as needed to reduce stranded network capacity.
  • Support multi-year transport capacity forecasts and network builds to determine capital funding requirements, along with relevant business cases and justifications.
  • Provide detailed diversity analysis for internal and external groups in support of future customer orders, mesh network growth, and converged core data networks.
Project Execution & Equipment Engineering
  • Timely creation and action on individual Capacity Creation Requests (CCRs) to initiate builds.
  • Perform detailed equipment engineering for network augments. This includes developing all specifications required for installation forces to properly install, turn-up, inventory, and configure equipment.
  • Obtain appropriate management approvals, issue purchase orders, create applicable diagrams/drawings, and ensure vendor delivery.
  • Develop Bills of Material (BOM) and place orders for network equipment, racks, and hardware requirements.
  • Define cable requirements, create cable running lists, and order all cables.
  • Coordinate with real estate/central office equipment to ensure adequate power, space, cooling, and diversity are available to support network growth and expansion.
  • Ensure all work meets applicable engineering, financial, planning, and operational standards.
Systems, Tools & Operations
  • Manage, input, and update central Network Inventory Databases (e.g., ICON, Nautilus, CoFEE, CCP) to reflect new builds, adds, and decommissions.
  • Deliver the transport planning team's key strategic business initiatives, including deploying new network technology and adopting new inventory and provisioning systems.
  • Coordinate with GTNOC and provide ad-hoc restoration for priority systems in the event of fiber cable outages.
Collaboration & Leadership
  • Develop collaborative working relationships across stakeholders and subject matter experts to enable successful iEN LD/ULH Transport implementation.
  • Coordinate with lease contracts organizations, capital planning, engineering, project management, and operations/RCAT to communicate network build plans and obtain stakeholder buy-in.
  • Identify and work with the appropriate stakeholders to resolve issues and eliminate performance roadblocks.
  • Perform and provide data analysis, reports, and presentations for transport planning stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate leadership, self-motivation, and team orientation by training and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Participate in regular team meetings and conference calls on assigned projects.
Logistics & Flexibility
  • Flexibility with a full-time schedule, including evenings, weekends, and being on-call.
  • Ability to locally commute and attend off-site partnership/stakeholder meetings when needed (averaging 15% per month).
