Data Governance Analyst

Position Summary
We are seeking a Data Governance Analyst to support enterprise data governance initiatives. This role focuses on metadata management, data lineage, data quality, and business glossary development. The analyst will work cross-functionally to ensure data assets are well-defined, governed, and aligned to organizational standards.
Key Responsibilities
Data Governance & Metadata
- Maintain and administer the enterprise business glossary, data dictionary, and data taxonomy
- Support implementation and ongoing use of data catalog and metadata management tools
- Identify and document critical data elements and associated metadata
- Monitor and maintain metadata artifacts, addressing gaps, inconsistencies, and issues
Data Lineage & Modeling
- Develop and maintain end-to-end data lineage diagrams from source systems through transformation to consumption layers
- Ensure lineage documentation is accurate, up to date, and accessible to both technical and business users
- Support development and maintenance of data models
Data Quality
- Define and implement data quality rules, thresholds, and validation checks for critical data elements
- Perform data quality and metadata audits, document findings, and track remediation efforts
Data Catalog & Glossary Management
- Maintain a centralized data catalog and associated business metadata
- Support onboarding of new data sources
- Help define and standardize business terms and classifications
Tools & Operations
- Use workflow and task tracking tools (e.g., JIRA) to manage work and provide status updates
- Leverage Power Platform tools to support process automation where applicable
- Respond to stakeholder inquiries and troubleshoot data governance-related issues
Required Qualifications
- 3–5 years of hands-on experience in data governance, including:
- Metadata management and curation
- Data lineage development
- Business glossary management
- Data quality rule definition and validation
- Experience with data catalog or metadata tools (e.g., Microsoft Purview, Collibra, Informatica, Alation)
- Working knowledge of SQL and data systems/infrastructure
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Familiarity with data governance frameworks and best practices (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in cloud or big data environments (e.g., Azure)
- Certifications in data, analytics, or cloud platforms
- Experience with data quality tools or profiling platforms
- Familiarity with data quality dimensions (e.g., completeness, accuracy, consistency, timeliness)
- Experience with Microsoft Power Platform
