Controls System Engineer

Introduction

We are looking for an experienced Controls System Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in PLC programming and industrial control systems, with a focus on Rockwell Automation platforms. This role involves developing, programming, debugging, and supporting PLC-based control systems for automation and manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

Control System Development

  • Design, develop, and implement PLC-based control systems.
  • Modify PLC, HMI, and control system programs based on requirements.
  • Conduct bench tests to validate control system functionality.
  • Ensure proper operation of sensors, actuators, and control components.
  • Develop and maintain machine safety systems and control logic.

Installation & Technical Support

  • Support installation, commissioning, and integration of PLC-based hardware and software.
  • Troubleshoot and debug complex PLC, HMI, and equipment-related issues.
  • Analyze and implement changes to improve system performance.
  • Provide technical support for production and plant operations.

Plant Transformation & Engineering Support

  • Support control activities for plant transformation initiatives.
  • Collaborate with engineering disciplines to improve plant processes.
  • Assist with PLC, HMI, and MES programming changes.
  • Provide production support and resolve controls-related issues.

Equipment Supplier & Standards Support

  • Work with equipment suppliers to ensure automation solutions meet requirements.
  • Support programming, networking, and hardware standards for new equipment.
  • Review and validate control system designs and technical documentation.

Team Collaboration & Mentoring

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to identify process improvements.
  • Mentor less-experienced Controls Engineers.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

Required Skills

  • 3-6 years of experience in Controls Engineering or related field.
  • Hands-on PLC programming experience.
  • Expertise in Rockwell Automation ControlLogix platforms.
  • Proficiency in Studio 5000 and FactoryTalk View Studio.
  • Strong understanding of PLC hardware, communication protocols, and control systems.
  • Experience with PLC troubleshooting, debugging, and production support.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and suppliers.

Preferred Skills

  • 4+ years of Controls/PLC engineering experience.
  • Experience with Siemens Step 7 or other Siemens PLC platforms.
  • Knowledge of robotic systems and vision systems.
  • Experience with MES systems and manufacturing automation.
  • Background in Assembly and/or Machining environments.
