AI Engineer (Remote)

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client that is seeking an AI Engineer (Remote) in Armonk, NY.

Summary:
We are seeking an experienced remote AI Engineer to design, optimize, and deploy high-performance AI/ML workloads in production environments. This role requires deep hands-on expertise in Python, strong understanding of model-to-hardware interactions (especially GPUs), and the ability to evaluate, debug, and optimize AI code for performance and correctness. The ideal candidate brings a blend of AI engineering, systems-level thinking, and either DevOps automation or data science experience, with a strong focus on inference performance, scalability, and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:
* Design, implement, and optimize AI/ML solutions with a strong emphasis on inference performance and scalability
* Review and analyze AI/ML code to: Validate correctness; Identify performance bottlenecks; Recommend and implement optimizations
* Optimize model execution with a strong understanding of: GPU architecture and utilization; Memory management; Scheduling and parallelism
* Work closely with infrastructure and platform teams to ensure AI workloads are efficiently deployed and operated in production
* Implement and maintain automation for AI infrastructure and deployment pipelines where applicable
* Contribute to best practices for AI engineering, performance tuning, and operational excellence

REQUIREMENTS:
* 5-10 years of experience as an AI Engineer, ML Engineer, or similar role
* Experience with AI inference optimization
* Hands-on experience with Linux-based environments
* Expert-level Python skills (required)
* Strong understanding of the relationship between AI models and GPU hardware, including: GPU compute vs. memory constraints; Performance trade-offs
* Proven ability to analyze and optimize AI/ML code, including: Reviewing existing code and determining whether it is correct and performant; Making targeted optimizations for efficiency
* Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently on complex technical challenges

Preferred/Nice-to-Have skills:
* Experience with vLLM (especially as an inference engine in Red Hat AI environments)
* Experience optimizing code using queue-based (Q) or scheduler-driven approaches
* Experience deploying or supporting AI models at scale in enterprise environments
* Background in DevOps automation, including Terraform; OpenShift; Or experience in data science, particularly where it intersects with production AI systems
* Knowledge of GPU scheduling, queuing, or related optimization techniques
* Familiarity with containerized AI workloads (Docker, Kubernetes/OpenShift)

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
