Description
We are looking for a skilled Cable Technician to join our team in Ames, Iowa. In this Contract to permanent position, you will play a key role in installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining cable systems in commercial environments. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience and a strong understanding of industry standards, with a focus on delivering quality results.
Responsibilities:
Install and route Cat 5 and Cat 6 cables in commercial settings, including new construction and renovation projects.
Follow industry standards to ensure proper cable installation and maintenance.
Perform conduit bending, cable testing, and troubleshooting using digital multi-meters.
Conduct networking issue diagnostics and resolve connectivity problems.
Assemble and install server racks, patch panels, and related equipment in network closets.
Execute fiber cable tasks such as anaerobic terminations, splicing, and working with SC and LC connectors.
Read and interpret schematic diagrams and line drawings to ensure accurate installations.
Maintain compliance with safety protocols and quality standards during all projects.
Collaborate with team members to complete projects efficiently and meet client expectations.
Requirements
Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Cable Technician in commercial environments.
Valid driver's license required for travel to job sites.
Familiarity with industry standards and practices for cable installation.
Proficiency in fiber optic terminations, splicing, and connector usage.
Experience with server rack assembly, patch panels, and networking equipment.
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve network connectivity issues.
Skilled in reading schematic diagrams and line drawings.
Knowledge of broadband, OSP, and coax cable systems is a strong advantage.
