We are seeking a Platform Engineer to design, build, and operate a distributed MQ platform that enable engineering teams to deliver business applications safely, reliably, and at scale. This role focuses on designing, implementing, and supporting a IBM MQ environment and platform to meet business needs, while identifying improvements and resolving performance issues; it emphasizes collaboration with cross-functional teams and participation in special projects. The ideal candidate brings practical experience with Linux RHEL systems, virtualization, multi-cloud environments, infrastructure-as-code concepts, security best practices, and automation tools such as Terraform, supported by strong troubleshooting skills.

Project/Team/Role Details

Overview

  • S2-S3 level IBM MQ Engineer supporting mission-critical messaging infrastructure
  • Role blends strategic engineering + hands-on incident response due to platform criticality
  • MQ supports major internal systems and external B2B integrations (high-impact environment)

Core Responsibilities

  • Ownership of IBM MQ platform (running on Linux)
  • Support:
    • Internal messaging systems
    • External B2B integrations (financial partners)
  • Troubleshooting + major incident response (more hands-on than other roles)
  • Lifecycle + roadmap planning

Platform & Roadmap

  • Current state:
    • Distributed MQ on Linux
    • Must remain on-prem (near-term requirement)
  • Future state:
    • Build AWS-based MQ environment
    • Shift to Infrastructure as Code + automated deployments (1-3 year roadmap)

MQ Engineer Hard Requirements

  • Deep, hands-on IBM MQ expertise (non-negotiable)
  • Strong incident response / troubleshooting skills in mission-critical environments
  • Experience supporting MQ on Linux platforms
  • Ability to manage high-severity incidents and crisis situations

Core Responsibilities

  • Designs, implements, and deploys platforms to support and meet business needs. Identifies, recommends, and implements opportunities for improvement and performance issue solutions.
  • Design and delivers cloud infrastructure via infrastructure as code, and pipeline automation to build, and support scalable platforms using modern cloud technologies.
  • Develops technical standards. Tests and evaluates technologies vendor products. Recommends vendor selections and new technologies.
  • Deploy, configure, and support MQ server environments and core services
  • Support global server environment, including configuration, performance troubleshooting, and escalated issues.
  • Participate in improving repeatability, reliability, and documentation of deployment processes.
  • Work closely with senior engineers, architects, and crossfunctional teams (networking, security, endpoint, service desk).
  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5+ years related work experience.
  • Undergraduate degree in a related field or the equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • 5+ years of experience supporting MQ on Linux server and virtualization Platforms required.
  • Working knowledge of IAC fundamentals.
  • Experience supporting IBM MQ v9.+ .
  • Familiarity with industry security principles and practices
  • Basic experience with automation tools (Terraform, or similar) required.
  • Strong troubleshooting and operational support skills required.
