Role Overview
We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to provide technical direction for application development teams. This role involves close coordination with product, technology, and enterprise architecture to ensure alignment on business-critical software initiatives. The position requires balancing technical leadership with hands-on development tasks based on team capacity and business needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Set technical direction for application development teams covering marketing content and loan acquisition workflows.
- Define roadmaps for migrating monolithic systems to distributed systems and microservice deployments on cloud infrastructure.
- Establish standards and guardrails for systems architecture, design patterns, code reusability, and technical debt.
- Evaluate emerging technologies, such as GraphQL and agentic AI, and assist with their adoption.
- Demonstrate leadership through participation in communities of practice and mentoring team members in engineering best practices.
- Balance architectural responsibilities with hands-on development tasks as needed.
Required Qualifications
Experience: A minimum of seven years in full-stack web development, with a focus on the presentation layer, is required. Experience building and maintaining high-traffic, consumer-facing websites on public cloud systems like Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure is necessary. Candidates must have strong DevOps experience, including CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, containerization, monitoring, and production operations.
Technical Skills: Proficiency is required in Node.JS, TypeScript, JavaScript, Ruby, Python, Amazon Web Services, Containerization, and CI/CD. Candidates should be skilled in integrating frontend technologies with RESTful APIs, GraphQL endpoints, and both relational and non-relational databases.
Preferred Qualifications
- AWS certification
- Ruby-on-Rails development experience
- Design systems implementation
- Prior experience in financial services
- Knowledge of OpenTelemetry, Technology Transformation, and Digital Transformation
Additional Information
This is a hybrid role requiring onsite presence three days per week. Candidates must reside within 50 miles of the specified office location: Baltimore, MD. There is potential for conversion to a full-time employee position.
