Senior Cloud & Enterprise Systems Engineer Contract to Hire need to work remotely within commuting distance of Boston, MA!

Customer is seeking a Senior Cloud & Enterprise Systems Engineer to serve as a trusted technical partner and extension of senior IT leadership. This role is intentionally broad and cloudcentric, designed to absorb complex technical, architectural, and coordination responsibilities so senior IT leaders can focus on strategy, governance, and business alignment.
This is not a singleproject or narrowly scoped role. The successful candidate will balance handson delivery with systems thinking, operating across identity, cloud, email, and core enterprise platforms in a fastmoving, evolving environment.
Key Responsibilities
Enterprise & Cloud Systems Ownership
- Take independent ownership of technical initiatives that directly reduce load on senior IT leadership
- Design, implement, and improve solutions across cloud, identity, email, and enterprise platforms
- Maintain a strong focus on sustainability, security, and longterm maintainability
Identity & Access Management
- Design and enhance identity lifecycle workflows, including support for temporary and contingent users
- Configure and improve user, group, and access automation across cloud and directory platforms
- Partner with security and leadership to ensure access models align with compliance and risk requirements
Cloud & Directory Platforms
- Support and advise on:
- Azure AD / Entra ID and Active Directory
- Hybrid and multitenant cloud environments
- Azure tenant consolidation initiatives
- Evaluate tradeoffs and recommend pragmatic solutions aligned with business needs
Email & Core Services
- Support emailrelated projects such as SMTP relays, delegation models, and automation
- Work with vendors and internal teams to deliver technical changes effectively
- Translate business requests into secure, welldesigned implementations
Project Coordination & Technical Leadership
- Manage multiple overlapping initiatives with shifting priorities
- Act as a primary internal technical contact for vendors and consultants
- Gather requirements, validate assumptions, and keep work moving without constant oversight
- Escalate decisions appropriately while solving most problems independently
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in enterprise or complex midmarket IT environments
- Background as a senior systems engineer, cloud engineer, or senior IT generalist
- Strong handson experience with:
- Cloud platforms (Azure strongly preferred)
- Identity systems (Azure AD / Entra ID, Active Directory)
- Core enterprise IT services (email, authentication, access management)
- Proven ability to operate effectively across multiple technologies and understand how systems work together
- Experience working independently in environments with ambiguity, changing priorities, and incomplete documentation

- Comfortable moving between architecture, implementation, and stakeholder coordination
- Experienced enough to recognize risk, dependencies, and longterm impacts
- Strong critical thinker who can take ownership without stepbystep direction
- Communicates clearly with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders
Nice to Have (Not Required)
- Experience with identity lifecycle management platforms (e.g., Chaosoft or similar tools)
- Azure tenant consolidation or largescale directory migrations
- Acting as a technical lead or project lead (people management not required)
- Exposure to security governance, audits, or compliance discussions
