Guidewire PolicyCenter Principal Software Engineer

Location: Wauwatosa, Wisconsin (Remote)

Alternate Location: Milwaukee, Richmond, Remote

Role Overview

This organization is seeking a highly skilled Principal Software Engineer to lead the technical delivery of Guidewire PolicyCenter on the Guidewire Cloud Platform. With BillingCenter and ClaimCenter already live, the enterprise is now implementing PolicyCenter, and this role will serve as a senior technical voice guiding the migration. As an advocate for agile and lean practices, the successful candidate will solve complex problems in a cross-functional team, champion code quality, and shape how PolicyCenter integrates into the wider insurance suite.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the PolicyCenter development team to ensure efficient delivery of the migration to the new system.
  • Engage with large systems integrator partners, setting technical direction and maintaining accountability for technical quality.
  • Support the expansion of PolicyCenter knowledge across internal team members through hands-on training and knowledge sharing.
  • Oversee the design of PolicyCenter architecture, including product model, rating, configuration, and integration, while supervising development and unit testing across multiple technologies.
  • Guide the migration from legacy policy administration systems, including data conversion approach, cutover strategy, and coexistence with in-flight business.
  • Design and build integrations between PolicyCenter, BillingCenter, ClaimCenter, and surrounding enterprise systems using Guidewire Cloud APIs and event-driven patterns.
  • Own the design and implementation of rating algorithms, rate tables, and rating worksheets in collaboration with actuarial and underwriting stakeholders.
  • Establish and advocate for Gosu standards, configuration over customization, and upgrade-safe extensions to ensure maintainability.
  • Provide strategic technical direction on Guidewire Cloud capabilities and mentor engineers within the software community of practice.
Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Required Skills:
  • 7+ years of Guidewire development experience, with 5+ years on PolicyCenter.
  • Hands-on experience with Guidewire Cloud Platform delivery, including Guidewire Cloud Console, Cloud APIs, and CI/CD pipelines for Guidewire applications.
  • Deep experience with the PolicyCenter product model and configuration, including product definition, coverages, forms, and underwriting rules and workflows.
  • Strong experience with PolicyCenter rating, including rate tables, rating engines, and rate change processes.
  • Strong experience with Gosu and Java, and with PCF page configuration.
  • 5+ years of experience coding RESTful APIs and designing integrations (REST/JSON, messaging, and batch) across enterprise systems.
  • Experience integrating PolicyCenter with BillingCenter and ClaimCenter within the Guidewire suite.
  • 8+ years of experience coding in multiple programming languages such as Java, C#, Python, etc.
  • 8+ years of experience with relational databases and SQL (MS SQL Server and Transact-SQL proficiency preferred).
  • Experience with data conversion and migration for policy administration systems.
  • In-depth understanding of design thinking and customer-centric development.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Guidewire BillingCenter, ClaimsCenter, and Cloud Integration Developer certification.
  • Experience with Guidewire Advanced Product Designer (APD) and Guidewire's low-code and configuration tooling.
  • Extensive understanding of DevOps, CI/CD, test automation, and cloud deployment methodologies.
  • Experience working with Guidewire Digital (Jutro) or other portal technologies alongside PolicyCenter.
  • Leadership and project management experience within insurance policy administration, specialty insurance, or related business domains.
