The Executive Director, Engineering & Equipment Manufacturing leads through plant and functional leaders and aligns engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply, commercial, and service priorities across the equipment value stream. The Executive Director establishes direction, allocates resources, strengthens operating discipline, and is accountable for safety, environmental stewardship, quality, cost, delivery, customer commitments, financial performance, capital effectiveness, and leadership capability across the organization. The Executive Director is expected to set a clear standard of cost discipline and first-time-right quality, so that every engineering and manufacturing decision meets customer, safety, and performance requirements at the lowest sustainable total cost.

Duties and Responsibilities (not limited to)

  • Provide strategic leadership for customer engineered-systems design, product development, technical standards, design quality, cost estimating, bidding support, and engineering execution
  • Ensure engineering resources, priorities, and technical decisions support customer requirements, manufacturability, schedule, quality, cost, and lifecycle performance
  • Advance standardization, modularization, design-for-manufacturing, technical risk management, and continuous improvement of equipment designs
  • Maintain appropriate governance for engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, design reviews, technical changes, and product-quality requirements
  • Ensure drawings, calculations, specifications, and bills of material are accurate, complete, and released on schedule, to limit downstream changes, rework, and added cost
  • Represent equipment engineering and manufacturing in senior business, customer, supplier, and cross-functional discussions
  • Build effective partnerships with Commercial, Service, Supply Chain, Finance, Human Resources, EHS, Quality, Legal, and other enterprise functions
  • Provide clear executive communication on performance, capacity, investment needs, customer commitments, material risks, and recovery plans
  • Lead the identification and qualification of new outsourced manufacturers and critical vendors that can improve cost competitiveness while meeting technical, capacity, delivery, EHS, regulatory, and business-continuity requirements
  • Establish and maintain rigorous oversight of their manufacturing processes, product quality, performance, and corrective actions to ensure customer requirements are consistently met or exceeded
  • Create clear executive accountability for environmental, health, safety, process safety, product safety, quality, and regulatory performance across the organization
  • Ensure plant and engineering leaders maintain effective management systems, compliance practices, training, audits, corrective actions, and performance reviews
  • Ensure each facility implements and continuously improves a robust safety program aligned with corporate EHS standards and applicable regulations
  • The program must address site-specific hazards and operating conditions, incorporate frontline employee input, provide effective training and controls, and verify performance through audits, corrective actions, and leading and lagging safety measures
  • Integrate EHS, quality, export-control, and operational-risk considerations into engineering, manufacturing, capital, supplier, and customer decisions
  • Champion a culture in which employees identify hazards, stop unsafe work, prevent defects, escalate risks, and learn from incidents and nonconformances
  • Set and uphold a firm standard for high-quality output
  • Engineering designs, fabricated equipment, and documentation should be delivered right the first time and fully meet customer specifications, applicable codes, and internal standards
  • Reduce the cost of poor quality by cutting defects, rework, scrap, warranty claims, and field failures through root-cause problem solving and strong design and process controls
  • Own the consolidated operating and capital planning processes for equipment engineering and manufacturing and manage performance within approved financial commitments
  • Provide oversight of product, project, plant, and departmental cost performance; identify and sponsor actions to improve margins, productivity, working capital, and return on investment
  • Evaluate significant capital, outsourcing, supplier, staffing, and capacity decisions using disciplined business cases and risk assessments
  • Partner with Commercial, Finance, Supply Chain, Service, and project stakeholders to balance customer commitments, cost, capacity, schedule, and risk
  • Build a culture of cost discipline by setting clear cost targets, spending controls, and accountability for labor, overtime, material, outsourcing, scrap, rework, and overhead at every site
  • Deliver sustainable cost reductions each year through productivity, sourcing, design standardization, and process improvement, without compromising safety, quality, or customer commitments
  • Require discretionary spending, added staff, and capital requests to show a clear business case and measurable return, and to support enterprise and parent-company cost-management priorities
  • Establish and execute the multi-year strategy for equipment engineering and manufacturing in alignment with business growth, customer, service, financial, and operating priorities
  • Translate business plans into coordinated engineering, manufacturing, capacity, technology, capital, workforce, and supplier strategies
  • Anticipate changes in demand, customer requirements, technical standards, manufacturing capability, and supply conditions and adjust organizational priorities accordingly
  • Build annual operating plans with measurable safety, quality, delivery, cost, cash, capital, customer, and talent objectives
  • Provide executive oversight of the E&A and Bloomfield manufacturing operations through the respective Plant Managers
  • Establish expectations and operating rhythms for safety, quality, schedule attainment, productivity, labor effectiveness, inventory, asset utilization, maintenance, and cost performance
  • Align plant capacity, production priorities, staffing, and outsourced manufacturing with the equipment and service backlog
  • Drive corrective action and cross-site coordination when operating performance, customer commitments, or financial results are at risk
  • Establish a coordinated continuous-improvement roadmap across engineering and manufacturing, with priorities based on safety, quality, throughput, cost, capacity, customer impact, and return
  • Lead capital portfolio prioritization and governance, including scope, business case, technical review, budget, schedule, commissioning, and benefits realization
  • Sponsor process optimization, manufacturing technology, tooling, equipment-layout, automation, data, and workflow improvements
  • Promote consistent standards, metrics, review routines, and problem-solving methods across facilities and functions
  • Lead, coach, and develop the plant managers, senior engineering leader, manufacturing engineer, and administrative support function
  • Establish clear decision rights, accountabilities, interfaces, performance expectations, and escalation paths across engineering and manufacturing
  • Develop succession plans, leadership depth, technical capability, workforce plans, and retention strategies for critical positions
  • Build a collaborative, high-accountability culture that connects geographically dispersed teams and encourages disciplined execution, innovation, and continuous learning
