Overview Senior Software Engineer - Space Systems position involves designing, engineering, analyzing, and developing software prototypes and applications within a multi-disciplinary team environment. The position collaborates closely with stakeholders to refine requirements, define system capabilities, and prioritize development efforts. Responsibilities span the full software development lifecycle, including user story creation, system design, coding, automated testing, and operational support. The role also focuses on building intuitive user interfaces and advanced visualization features to enhance data management and system oversight, while leveraging complex algorithms to deliver optimized solutions. Additionally, it ensures software maintainability and compliance with departmental standards and user requirements.
The Senior Software Engineer - Space Systems will: - Design, engineer, analyze, and develop software prototypes and/or applications as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Engage with stakeholders to better define the problem space and vision to determine capabilities and priorities.
- Participate in the complete software development lifecycle: user story creation, design, development, automated testing, and operational support.
- Create intuitive user interfaces that enable efficient data management and system oversight.
- Design and develop new visualization features to meet evolving end-user requirements.
- Work with complex algorithms to deliver optimized solutions for the end user.
- Determine software maintainability and overall adherence to user requirements on department standards
- Drive continuous improvement through process and tooling recommendations.
- Mentor team members by sharing innovative ideas and industry best practices.

Required Skills: - Security Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance is required for this position
- Experience and Education: BS degree in Computer Science or Information
- Systems; other degrees will be considered with relevant work experience
- Strong experience in one or more of the following: Python, Java, or Go.
- Experience working with Java script fameworks such as Angular or React.
- Hands-on experience developing web applications with microservice architecture.
- Hands-on experience with database technologies such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, and others.
- Experience with Docker, AWS and / or Azure, and Kubernetes for containerization, cloud services, and orchestration.
- Proficient in using GitLab or other Tools for version control, CI/CD pipelines, and collaboration.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Strong passion for conducting research, tackling complex problems, and continuously learning and adopting new technologies.
- Organization capability with ability to handle competing priorities. Strong interpersonal skills, communication (oral and written), and presentation skills.
Preferred Skills: - Experience with space and ground systems, such as satellite communication, ground terminals and DoD networks.
- 10+ years of software development, including architecture, object oriented design, coding, and testing.
- Knowledge and experience in Jira and Confluence.
- Experience in implementing Agile Software Development methodologies for efficient and iterative project management.
- Experience with MILSATCOM, such as AEHF, EPS, WGS, and Tactical SATCOM or COMSATCOM.
Education: - Required: BS degree in Computer Science or Information Systems; other degrees will be considered with relevant work experience
Years of experience in a similar role: - Required: 7 years of software development, including architecture, object-oriented design, coding, and testing.
- Preferred: 10+ years of software development, including architecture, object-oriented design, coding, and testing.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: - If traveling, the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted (luggage, laptop, etc.)
- Up to 15 lbs. unassisted, several times a day (laptop, office equipment, office supplies, etc.)
- Travel unassisted less up to 10% per year, via aircraft or privately owned vehicle.
