Description

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented IT Infrastructure & Cloud Operations Intern to support our server, virtualization, endpoint management, and Azure cloud environments. This role provides hands-on experience with enterprise IT systems including Windows Server administration, virtual machine provisioning, patch management, and cloud resource allocation.

This internship is ideal for a student looking to gain practical experience in systems administration and cloud operations.

Essential Responsibilities

Windows Server Administration
  • Assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of Windows Server environments
  • Support Active Directory user and group management
  • Monitor server performance and troubleshoot basic system issues

Virtual Machine Management
  • Provision and configure virtual machines in on-premises server environments
  • Assign and manage virtual machines for end users
  • Monitor VM performance and optimize resource allocation

Server Resource Management
  • Track CPU, memory, storage, and network utilization
  • Assist with capacity planning and resource optimization
  • Support backup and recovery processes

Endpoint & Server Patching
  • Assist with OS patching and security updates for servers and endpoints
  • Monitor patch compliance and remediate vulnerabilities
  • Support endpoint management tools and remediation efforts

Azure Cloud Operations
  • Assist with Azure resource provisioning (VMs, storage, networking)
  • Support subscription management and access control
  • Monitor resource usage and help optimize cloud costs
  • Assist with basic Azure governance and policy enforcement

This position offers the flexibility of a hybrid schedule with the expectation of 3 days per week in our downtown Chicago, IL office, and 2 days remote from home.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Pursuing a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Basic knowledge of Windows Server and Active Directory
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware vSphere or Microsoft Hyper-V)
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Azure
  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to document processes clearly

Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)
  • Familiarity with endpoint management tools (e.g., Microsoft Intune)
  • Exposure to patch management tools (e.g., Windows Server Update Services - WSUS)
  • Basic scripting knowledge (PowerShell preferred)
  • Understanding of cybersecurity best practices

Compensation Range

$17.50 - $27.00
