About the RoleGeneral Matter is seeking an
Architectural Engineering Intern or recent graduate to join our Facility Design and Construction team in Los Angeles. This role offers a unique opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers and project teams delivering large-scale industrial and nuclear infrastructure projects, including our flagship uranium enrichment facility.
You will gain hands-on experience supporting integrated building systems design, multidisciplinary coordination, and construction planning for complex facilities. This role is ideal for a student or graduate who enjoys the intersection of structural, mechanical, and architectural disciplines within the AEC industry.
What You'll Do- Support facility structural and mechanical design work for large-scale industrial infrastructure projects.
- Assist with the preparation of integrated structural and mechanical drawings and technical documentation.
- Collaborate closely with architectural, civil, electrical, and construction teams to ensure holistic building performance.
- Help coordinate complex structural and mechanical layouts within the building envelope to optimize space and functionality.
- Participate in engineering design reviews and project coordination meetings to track progress and resolve technical interface issues.
- Support high-fidelity BIM modeling using Revit to integrate multidisciplinary designs.
- Assist engineering teams with constructability reviews and design updates to streamline the transition from theory to field.
- Help address field design questions and Requests for Information (RFIs) during the construction phase when applicable.
What You'll Bring- Current enrollment (Junior or Senior standing) or recent completion of a Bachelor's degree in Architectural Engineering.
- Strong interest in industrial infrastructure, energy, or large-scale, high-complexity construction projects.
- Proficiency in Revit is required; experience with AutoCAD or other BIM/rendering tools is a plus.
- A multidisciplinary mindset with a foundational understanding of how structural and mechanical systems interact within a facility.
- Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills tailored for a fast-paced engineering environment.
- Interest and/or experience in visual programming (Dynamo, Grasshopper) or coding (Python) to support workflow automation.
Bonus Qualifications- Internship or academic project experience related to industrial building design or heavy construction.
- Exposure to facility planning for infrastructure, advanced manufacturing, or power-intensive sites.
- Interest in nuclear energy, sustainable industrial design, or critical infrastructure resilience.
- Familiarity with building codes and standards relevant to large-scale facility design.
