Job Description: Senior IT Systems Engineer
Location: Washington, DC (Hybrid 3 days onsite)

Position Summary
The Senior IT Systems Engineer will support, maintain, and optimize NIGC s enterprise IT infrastructure. The role requires extensive hands-on experience with both on-premises and cloud systems, ensuring reliable operations, compliance, and system security. The ideal candidate operates with minimal supervision and provides actionable recommendations to improve IT infrastructure performance and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
Systems Engineering & Administration
Install, configure, test, and maintain servers, storage systems, and networking equipment.
Perform systems engineering and daily IT operations in both on-premises and Microsoft 365 environments.
Document all administration processes and maintain system configuration hygiene.
Cloud & Identity Management
Administer Microsoft 365 Entra ID (Azure AD).
Implement Conditional Access policies and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).
Monitor and audit identity and access management controls.
Networking & Infrastructure
Manage LAN, WAN, wireless, and cloud networking solutions.
Troubleshoot network issues and implement solutions supporting business operations.
Security & Compliance
Ensure adherence to federal compliance frameworks (FISMA, NIST).
Develop remediation strategies for compliance gaps.
Implement security controls including Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) and STIG baselines.
Manage patching and firmware updates across systems.
Systems Evaluation & Improvement
Assess existing IT architecture and recommend performance and operational improvements.
Identify system dependencies and prioritize enhancements.
Monitoring & Incident Response
Configure monitoring and alerting for critical IT resources.
Respond to alerts and ensure system reliability.
Disaster Recovery & Data Protection
Develop and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.
Ensure secure data handling and storage.
Documentation & Collaboration
Maintain SOPs and system documentation.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams on system integration and operational requirements.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor s degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
7+ years in systems engineering or IT infrastructure.
Hands-on experience with:
Microsoft 365 and Entra ID (Azure AD)
Microsoft Azure cloud services
Windows Server environments
Networking technologies (LAN/WAN/Wireless)
Federal compliance frameworks (FISMA, NIST)
STIGs and EDR tools
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Microsoft, CISSP, or CompTIA Security+ certifications.
Federal or government IT environment experience.
Familiarity with SCuBA compliance baselines and CISO security initiatives.
