Job Summary

The Automation Technician will support injection molding automation by troubleshooting, programming, optimizing, and maintaining industrial automation equipment. The role will work with robots, conveyors, sensors, vision systems, PLCs, HMIs, and EOAT systems to minimize downtime and improve production performance. The technician will also support mold trials, new product launches, preventive and corrective maintenance, and continuous improvement initiatives. The position requires strong hands-on troubleshooting skills and the ability to interpret electrical and mechanical schematics.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and resolve issues involving molding automation systems, robots, conveyors, sensors, and vision systems.
  • Respond to automation alarms and faults to minimize production downtime.
  • Program and optimize molding robots, including Sepro, Fanuc, Yushin, and Wittmann systems.
  • Modify robot paths and sequences to improve cycle time and part quality.
  • Maintain robot program backups and technical documentation.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on automation equipment.
  • Replace worn components and calibrate sensors and actuators.
  • Maintain detailed maintenance and equipment performance records.
  • Support mold trials and new product launches by establishing automation sequences.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to automation layouts and workflows.
  • Participate in Kaizen events and Lean Manufacturing initiatives.
  • Ensure automation systems operate within applicable safety and quality requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • B.E.
  • 2 5 years of experience in injection molding automation or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience with robot programming and troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of PLCs, HMIs, and industrial sensors.
  • Ability to read electrical and mechanical schematics.
  • Familiarity with EOAT (End-of-Arm Tooling) design and maintenance.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Work Requirements

  • Onsite position in Buffalo Grove, IL.
  • 2nd Shift.
  • Experience supporting injection molding automation.
  • Ability to perform hands-on troubleshooting, programming, and maintenance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable ISO, FDA, and GMP requirements where applicable.
