Job Title: Mainframe Utilities, Job Scheduling & DevOps Tools Engineer (MF Engineer) Job Location: Phoenix , AZ (Hybrid) Duration: 6 months (Contract to Hire )
Job Summary
  • We are seeking a highly skilled Mainframe Engineer with strong expertise in utilities development, job scheduling infrastructure, and DevOps tools.
  • The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, automating, and maintaining mainframe-based solutions, while ensuring efficient job scheduling, deployment processes, and system reliability across enterprise environments.
Key Responsibilities
Mainframe Utilities Development
  • Design, develop, and maintain mainframe utility programs using languages such as COBOL, REXX, and JCL
  • Build reusable tools and utilities to support system operations, data processing, and batch workflows
  • Optimize and enhance existing utilities for performance, scalability, and reliability
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to utilities and batch processing
Job Scheduling & Infrastructure Engineering
  • Manage and support enterprise job scheduling tools such as Control-M, CA-7, or IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler
  • Design, implement, and maintain job scheduling workflows, dependencies, and calendars
  • Monitor batch jobs, resolve failures, and ensure SLA adherence
  • Automate job scheduling processes and improve operational efficiency
  • Perform capacity planning and performance tuning for scheduling systems
Dev & Deployment Tools Engineering
  • Develop and maintain mainframe DevOps and deployment pipelines
  • Work with tools such as Endevor, Changeman, ISPW, or Git integration with mainframe
  • Automate build, deployment, and release processes across environments
  • Support CI/CD practices in mainframe environments
  • Collaborate with development teams to streamline code promotion and version control
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Strong experience in Mainframe technologies (z/OS, JCL, COBOL, REXX)
  • Hands-on expertise with job scheduling tools (Control-M, CA-7, Tivoli)
  • Experience with mainframe DevOps tools (Endevor, Changeman, ISPW, etc.)
  • Solid understanding of batch processing, job dependencies, and scheduling architecture
  • Knowledge of automation and scripting for mainframe environments
  • Experience in system troubleshooting, performance tuning, and incident management
Preferred Qualifications
  • Exposure to modern DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines in mainframe
  • Integration experience with distributed systems and cloud platforms
  • Knowledge of APIs, automation frameworks, or monitoring tools
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
