Technical Specialist – Mainframe

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Technical Specialist – Mainframe to provide expert-level support for enterprise mainframe systems. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with z/OS, CICS, DB2, Endevor, IMS, JCL, and Elixir and will be responsible for system support, configuration and release management, SQL optimization, DB2 troubleshooting, and CICS administration.

The resource will work closely with application developers, infrastructure teams, and IT personnel to troubleshoot complex technical issues, improve system performance, and support reliable production operations.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical expertise and support for the IBM z/OS operating system, including its architecture, functionality, and interrelationships with other mainframe components.
• Provide configuration management and release management support and guidance using Endevor.
• Perform CICS administration, troubleshooting, problem-solving, and debugging.
• Collaborate with application developers and IT/DIT personnel to identify and resolve complex CICS and mainframe issues.
• Analyze complex SQL queries and recommend improvements for performance optimization and cost savings.
• Provide technical support for DB2, including DB2 tools, utilities, troubleshooting, and performance analysis.
• Develop, review, and optimize SQL queries and database processes.
• Support mainframe batch processing using JCL.
• Work with IMS and Elixir in support of enterprise mainframe applications.
• Troubleshoot production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and recommend long-term technical solutions.
• Support software releases, deployments, configuration changes, and production implementations.
• Work with middleware and MQ integrations as needed.
• Provide technical guidance and knowledge transfer to development and infrastructure teams.

Required Skills

• 7+ years of experience with IBM z/OS operating systems and related mainframe components.
• 7+ years of experience providing configuration/release management support using Endevor.
• 7+ years of experience with SQL programming and query techniques.
• 7+ years of experience with DB2 tools and utilities.
• Strong experience analyzing complex SQL queries and implementing performance improvements.
• Strong experience with CICS administration, troubleshooting, and debugging.
• Hands-on experience with JCL and mainframe batch processing.
• Experience with IMS and Elixir.
• Strong production support and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
