Lead Engineer, Precision Interconnect Systems - Full-Time / Canada
An innovative engineering and technology company is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to drive the design and development of highly precise mechanical interface systems used in advanced testing and measurement environments. Based in Waterloo, Ontario, this full-time opportunity will focus on developing high-performance contact mechanisms, interconnect solutions, and precision assemblies that require exceptional reliability, repeatability, and durability.

This is a senior-level technical leadership role where you'll have the opportunity to influence the design of next-generation hardware platforms from concept through production. The ideal candidate enjoys solving complex mechanical challenges, working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, and developing products that demand extreme precision. If you're passionate about advanced mechanical design, material selection, reliability engineering, and creating systems that perform consistently under demanding conditions, this position offers the chance to make a meaningful impact.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • 8+ years of experience designing precision mechanical or electromechanical products
  • Proven experience developing complex interconnect, contact, fixture, test, or high-reliability mechanical systems
  • Strong understanding of contact behavior, wear mechanisms, friction, fatigue, material deformation, and lifecycle performance
  • Experience selecting materials, coatings, and surface treatments to enhance durability and performance
  • Advanced knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, dimensional control, and precision manufacturing principles
  • Proficiency with modern CAD platforms and creation of detailed engineering documentation and production drawings
  • Experience supporting products through the full development lifecycle, including prototyping, testing, manufacturing transfer, and production release
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional engineering teams to optimize overall system performance
  • Strong problem-solving, technical leadership, and communication skills
Desired Skills & Experience
  • Experience working with high-frequency, electronics, or advanced interconnect technologies
  • Familiarity with precision alignment systems, compliant mechanisms, or self-centering mechanical designs
  • Experience with reliability testing, accelerated lifecycle validation, and mechanical performance analysis
  • Knowledge of simulation tools such as FEA for stress, vibration, or durability analysis
  • Experience working with automated testing equipment, probe systems, or similar precision hardware
  • Background in tribology, connector reliability, surface engineering, or materials performance
  • Experience managing supplier relationships, prototype builds, and manufacturing qualification activities
