Description INTRODUCTION: SAIC is seeking an FPGA design engineering internship as part of the Launcher Electronics Assembly (LEA) program at the Indianapolis, IN facility.
JOB DESCRIPTION: The candidate will directly support Government program(s) as an FPGA design engineer throughout the entire program lifecycle. Candidate will be expected to design, develop, document, test, and debug FPGA design for use in embedded military applications that require low level control processing (Interrupts, Timers, Digital I/O, and serial communication protocols). Candidate may be expected to possess a basic knowledge of reading schematics of complex electronic assemblies. Candidate may also be required to develop supporting test bench simulations. Candidate may be expected to conduct multidisciplinary research and collaborate with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, requirements analysis and definition, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product. Candidate is expected to possess excellent communication skills to interface to multi-disciplinary design team.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS AND ABILITY: Limited use and/or application of technical principles, theories, and concepts. Receives assignments in the form of specific tasks for the work to be completed. Work is reviewed by management to measure meeting objectives and schedules.
PROBLEM COMPLEXITY: Develops solutions to routine technical problems of limited scope. Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained.
FREEDOM TO ACT: Work is closely supervised. Follows specific, detailed instructions.
IMPACT: Contributes to completion of routine technical tasks. Failure to achieve results can normally be overcome without serious effect on schedules and programs
LIASON: Contacts are primarily with immediate supervisor, project leaders, and other professionals in the group
Qualifications EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School and one (1) year or more of college coursework in related technical Bachelor's degree.
REQUIRED SKILLS: Candidate must possess the following skills:
- Proficient and/or application of technical principles, theories, and concepts associated with FPGA design
- Must be able to work well with team members and possess excellent communication skills
DESIRED SKILLS: Not required, but ideal candidate would possess the following skills:
- Experience with FPGA design in VHDL and/or Verilog
- Experience with FPGA design tools, including but not limited to Xillinx/AMD Vivado and Microsemi Libero
- Experience with FPGA simulation and test bench tools
- Experience with utilizing lab equipment, including but not limited to digital multimeters and oscilloscopes
- Experience with Agile development process and Continuous Integration, Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) concepts
- Working knowledge or ability to read electrical schematics and datasheets
- Knowledge of MIL-STD-1553 or similar military serial communication protocols
- Active security clearance at Secret level or above.
