Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior IBM Mainframe Engineer to design, develop, optimize, and support mission-critical enterprise applications running on IBM z/OS. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in Enterprise COBOL, CICS, DB2, JCL, and enterprise batch processing while supporting high-volume transactional systems.

This role involves developing secure online and batch applications, optimizing system performance, integrating legacy mainframe systems with modern REST APIs, and contributing to enterprise modernization initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Application Development

• Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise applications using Enterprise COBOL on IBM z/OS.

• Develop secure, scalable, and high-performance batch and online applications.

• Implement application enhancements while ensuring stability and reliability.

• Follow enterprise coding standards and software development best practices.

CICS Development

• Design and optimize high-performance CICS online applications.

• Develop and maintain:

  • BMS Maps

  • TS Queues

  • TD Queues

  • Program Control

  • Intercommunication modules

• Optimize transaction throughput, response time, and application performance.

DB2 Development

• Design relational database structures.

• Develop embedded SQL programs.

• Optimize DB2 stored procedures, indexes, and SQL queries.

• Perform database tuning and eliminate processing bottlenecks.

Batch Processing & JCL

• Develop, maintain, and optimize complex JCL streams.

• Utilize IBM utilities including:

  • IEBGENER

  • IDCAMS

  • SORT

• Support enterprise batch scheduling and automation.

• Ensure efficient batch execution and workload optimization.

Performance Tuning & Debugging

• Perform advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis.

• Conduct dump analysis and system tracing.

• Optimize application performance using:

  • Xpediter

  • InterTest

  • File-AID

• Resolve production issues while maintaining high system availability.

Systems Integration

• Collaborate with Cloud and Integration Architects.

• Expose mainframe applications through RESTful APIs using:

  • IBM z/OS Connect

  • IBM MQ Series

• Support enterprise modernization and hybrid integration initiatives.

Technical Leadership

• Lead code reviews and enforce development standards.

• Mentor junior developers.

• Maintain technical documentation and architecture artifacts.

• Participate in modernization and architecture planning initiatives.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.

• 8+ years of experience in IBM Mainframe software engineering.

• Strong expertise in Enterprise COBOL, CICS, DB2, JCL, and Embedded SQL.

• Experience developing high-volume transactional applications.

• Strong understanding of batch processing and JCL utilities.

• Hands-on experience with DB2 database design and optimization.

• Experience using Xpediter, InterTest, File-AID, and dump analysis tools.

• Experience integrating mainframe applications with REST APIs using IBM MQ or z/OS Connect.

• Strong debugging, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.

• Excellent communication and documentation skills.
