Position Overview
We are seeking a Controls Engineer to support, maintain, and improve automated manufacturing systems in a production environment. This role focuses on PLC-based controls, HMI development, and automation troubleshooting to support uptime, safety, and continuous improvement across manufacturing operations.
This position is suited for an engineer who enjoys being hands-on in the plant, working closely with maintenance, operations, and engineering teams to keep production running efficiently and reliably.
Key Responsibilities
Program, troubleshoot, and modify PLC and HMI systems supporting manufacturing equipment
Provide day-to-day controls support to minimize downtime and production interruptions
Support automated production lines, material handling systems, and process equipment
Assist with new equipment installations, upgrades, and production line launches
Troubleshoot and resolve control system and electrical issues in live production environments
Develop and maintain controls documentation, standards, and schematics
Partner with manufacturing engineering, maintenance, and operations teams on improvement initiatives
Work with OEMs, system integrators, and vendors as needed
Participate in on-call or off-shift support as required (scope and frequency vary by site)
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, or related field (or equivalent hands-on controls experience)
3+ years of Controls or Automation Engineering experience in manufacturing or industrial environments
Strong experience with PLCs (Allen-Bradley / Rockwell preferred)
Experience developing or supporting HMIs
Ability to troubleshoot electrical and control system issues on the plant floor
Comfortable working in fast-paced production environments
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting manufacturing automation in food, packaging, plastics, metals, automotive, or industrial environments
Exposure to VFDs, servos, motion control, and industrial networks
Basic SCADA exposure
Experience supporting equipment startups, line expansions, or modernization projects
Familiarity with industrial safety standards and procedures
