  • Hardware-Software Verification Engineer (Manual / Embedded Systems)

Summary

job summary:

We are seeking a talented Senior Hardware-Software Verification Engineer to lead and execute advanced manual software and firmware testing for our integrated hardware platforms and embedded systems. In this role, you will focus on physical test setup, device-level validation, firmware verification, and hardware-software integration using Lynx development and integration environments. You will be responsible for designing comprehensive manual test strategies, building functional verification setups, and utilizing version control pipelines to track code maturity and system defects.

The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise in firmware testing, a strong foundation in electrical engineering principles, a robust understanding of hardware schematics, and a passion for finding system defects through rigorous physical exploration.

location: San Diego, California

job type: Contract

salary: $50 - 54 per hour

work hours: 8am to 5pm

education: Bachelors

responsibilities:

  • Lead physical, manual testing of complex embedded systems, verifying that device firmware perfectly aligns with electrical hardware behavior.
  • Design, execute, and document meticulous manual test plans, exploratory test cases, and edge-case testing protocols for new instrument and system hardware.
  • Partner closely with embedded developers, firmware architects, and electrical engineers to trace system defects down to the chip, register, or schematic level.
  • Own quality and reliability metrics for assigned hardware lines, configuring lab benches, test equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers), and physical test rigs.
  • Utilize Git for configuration management, branching, and version control, ensuring all manual test logs and configuration scripts sync seamlessly with active code repositories.
  • Set up, manage, and execute test cases within Lynx Virtual Integration Environments (VIE) or Embedded Board Farms (EBF) to test embedded systems and real-time operating environments.
  • Mentor and guide junior verification technicians on testing methodologies, device debugging protocols, and electrical lab safety practices.

qualifications:

5+ years of dedicated experience in embedded software testing, firmware validation, or hardware-software integration verification.

Direct, hands-on experience utilizing Lynx software tools (such as Lynx VIE, Lynx EBF, or LynxOS/Mosaic environments) to interface with, debug, and validate embedded architectures.

Strong proficiency in version control systems, specifically using Git for managing test configurations, documentation, and reporting changes.

Deep knowledge of hardware testing methodologies, including Black-Box/Exploratory testing, system-level loop testing, environmental testing, and boundary validation on physical devices.

Demonstrated capability troubleshooting circuits and communication protocols (e.g., I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, or USB) using hardware debugging tools like logic analyzers and digital oscilloscopes.

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a heavily hardware-focused technical field.

Prior experience working in a heavily compliance-driven or highly regulated physical engineering industry (e.g., aerospace, automotive components, medical/scientific instrumentation).

Familiarity with analyzing engineering schematics, PCB layouts, and component datasheets to inform test design.

A naturally curious, detail-oriented, and highly analytical mindset with a passion for finding the physical limits and breaking points of hardware-software integrations.

Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a proven ability to bridge the gap between pure hardware engineers and software teams.
