The CNC Technician ? Swiss lathes play a critical role in supporting and advancing precision manufacturing operations through expert focus on CNC turning processes. This position ensures high-quality, efficient, and repeatable machining by providing hands-on technical support, troubleshooting, and continuous process improvement. The role directly impacts product quality, equipment performance, and operational efficiency while supporting safe and reliable production. Through collaboration with operators, engineers, and vendors, this position helps drive innovation and cost-effective manufacturing solutions.

This is an on-site role at our Elmira, NY manufacturing facility

What Will You Do?

Provide hands-on technical support for CNC metal cutting equipment with a primary focus on CNC Swiss lathe processes.

Troubleshoot machining issues and perform failure analysis to improve process stability and part quality.

Program, qualify, implement, and debug CNC grinding programs for new and existing processes.

Measure parts using manual gaging and automated inspection methods to verify conformance to specifications.

Apply data-driven decision-making to correct and optimize CNC programs and machining processes.

Participate in defining machine requirements for equipment modifications and new machine builds.

Support machine selection activities, including vendor functional acceptance, site acceptance, installation, and qualification.

Participate in cutting tool selection, design input, sourcing, and testing.

Support tool holder and fixture selection, design, sourcing, and testing activities.

Install, align, and qualify machine components such as tool setters and live tool spindles.

Train machine operators on equipment maintenance, tool changes, tool setting, offsets, data transfer, and routine operational requirements.

Recommend and support process improvements to reduce cost, improve efficiency, and streamline systems.

Act as a role model for machine operators by demonstrating strong troubleshooting skills, asset care, process adherence, and professional conduct.

Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

How Will You Get Here?

Education

Associate?s degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Experience

At least 2 years of related CNC machining or manufacturing experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Strong understanding of CNC equipment and related programming software.

Experience troubleshooting CNC machine mechanical systems.

Ability to interpret technical drawings and apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).

Understanding of machining calculations including speeds, feeds, and material removal rates.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word and Excel.

Strong problem-solving skills with a data-driven mindset.

Ability to prioritize work, manage multiple tasks, and meet production deadlines.

Ability to work in a climate-controlled manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, oils, coolants, and manufacturing chemicals.

Ability to lift and maneuver fixtures, materials, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience supporting multi-axis CNC equipment.

Prior involvement in machine installation, qualification, or capital equipment projects.

Willingness to support flexible schedules, including occasional 2nd shift, 3rd shift, weekend operations, and overtime as needed.

Working knowledge of CNC Swiss lathe setup and programming including CAM software Swiss lathes (e.g., Partmaker, Espirit).
