The ideal candidate should have experience developing the documentation for and leading SETR events for complex electromechanical systems including System Requirements Reviews (SRRs), System Functional Reviews (SFRs), Preliminary Design Reviews (PDRs), Critical Design Reviews (CDRs), and Test Readiness Reviews (TRRs). The candidate should have the ability to discuss projects they have supported and/or led. The candidate should be able to self-manage/self-direct projects, and communicate regularly with customers, engineers, logisticians and technicians.

Job Duties:
  • The candidate will lead systems engineering efforts on multiple high-profile projects which involve interfacing directly with customers to define key requirements, working with the design team to prepare for and develop the documentation for all necessary SETR events, and ensuring project alignment with the full systems lifecycle: concept, design, integration, verification, validation, and transition to production.
  • The candidate will need a broad engineering skill set, well-developed work habits, enthusiasm for standing up a formal systems engineering structure on a dynamic program with many different customers, the ability to effectively communicate systems engineering concepts to other members of the team without previous experience in it, and the ability to work through challenging projects without extensive oversight.
  • The candidate will work in a multidisciplinary team of Mechanical Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Software Engineers, Program Analysts, and technicians on the modernization and development of various torpedo test equipment hardware designs from initial development through prototyping and possible production runs.
  • Technical writing and engineering documentation proficiency is paramount.
  • The candidate will have to be detail oriented and possess excellent communication skills to ensure all established milestones are met across the different test equipment efforts that are being worked on simultaneously by a design team that operates across multiple SAIC offices and customer sites.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers with the incorporation of systems engineering processes, tools, and best practices from the start of each design effort through final deployment and delivery to the customer.

Qualifications
?
Qualifications:
  • B.S. in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field and five (5) or more years of experience. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for two (2) years of experience.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain SECRET level clearance.
  • Must have experience leading multiple projects through full complement of SETR events including but not limited to SRRs, SFRs, SSRs, PDRs, CDRs, TRRs, PRRs, and PCAs.
  • Must be able to support in-person interactions with customers at local Naval research center in Newport, RI and occasionally at external customer sites.
  • Experience with most of the following:
    • Execution of large-scale projects using formal Project Management and/or Systems Engineering practices.
    • Extensive knowledge and understanding of mechanical and electrical systems is necessary.
    • Experience with National Instrument's hardware and software systems or other data acquisition systems is preferrable.
    • Must be highly motivated and have excellent problem-solving skills.
    • Must demonstrate strong organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently with changing deadlines and priorities.
    • Must be able to work in a customer-facing team environment while completing tasks in an unsupervised and self-directed fashion.
    • Proficiency in technical writing for all forms of test documentation is necessary.
