Staff Mechanical Engineer - High Use Products

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce is looking for and Staff Mechanical Engineer -High-Use Products for an onsite role with hybrid flexibility (typically Monday, Wednesday, Friday) in San Diego, CA.

Responsibilities:
* Lead mechanical design efforts for high-volume wireless mobile and fixed communication products from concept through production
* Design plastic, sheet metal, die-cast, and rubber components for indoor and outdoor consumer products
* Develop manufacturable, IP67-compliant designs using advanced CAD, simulation, and prototyping techniques
* Create complex parts, assemblies, and detailed 2D drawings using Creo/Pro ENGINEER
* Work hands-on in a fast-paced environment, managing ambiguity and adapting to new or challenging design requirements
* Independently plan, manage, and prioritize projects; track progress and provide regular updates to management
* Thoroughly document designs through detailed mechanical drawings and technical documentation
* Compile, analyze, and evaluate design and test data to support technical specifications and design decisions

REQUIREMENTS:
* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
* 7+ years of experience in product design and/or mechanical engineering within high-end consumer electronics or a similar consumer-oriented field
* 7+ years of hands-on experience designing plastic injection-molded, sheet metal, and die-cast parts
* 7+ years of experience using Creo/Pro ENGINEER 3D CAD and Windchill PLM
* 7+ years of experience with thermal simulation tools (Flotherm preferred)
* 7+ years of experience with FEA software (Creo Mechanica preferred)
* Experience with mobile device battery cell packaging and touchscreen structural design preferred
* Strong understanding of tolerance analysis (RSS)
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Ability to work effectively with internal teams, vendors, and domestic and international contract manufacturers
* Ability to travel internationally as needed
* Experience with sealing and ingress protection, including how to prevent water, dust, and chemical intrusion
* Strong understanding of ruggedized product design, including dust sealing and waterproofing
* Ability to design for real-world consumer use - understanding that devices are frequently handled, dropped, and exposed to wear and tear
* Experience factoring in drop events, small port covers, and thermal considerations, including managing internal heat and thermal performance
* Understanding of mechanical dynamics such as repeated use of buttons and power switches over thousands of cycles
* Strong preference for experience with handheld consumer electronic devices; wireless products are required
* Wearables experience may also be relevant
* Background designing high-touch, user-facing products (e.g., phones or similar devices that are frequently handled and dropped)

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
