Role: Data Scientist SME (Medicaid)
Location: Jackson, MS (Onsite)
Contract Duration: 3 Years (with renewal options)
Position Overview
The Data Scientist SME will work with the data, business, and IT teams to develop advanced reporting solutions and perform healthcare data analysis. The role involves using standardized analytical methods and modern reporting tools to generate insights from Medicaid claims and clinical data.
Key Responsibilities
Provide technical expertise in the development of reports and recommend tools for data reporting and analytics.
Assist in building scalable, organization-wide dashboards and reporting solutions.
Perform advanced analysis on Medicaid claims and clinical data to identify patterns, trends, and actionable insights.
Collaborate with technical and non-technical teams to develop and document reports generated for Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and other external entities.
Identify gaps in existing data, reporting, and analytics processes and recommend solutions.
Review reports created by external organizations to ensure accuracy, sound methodology, and consistency with DOM expectations.
Provide analytics expertise for agency projects as needed.
Identify project opportunities, risks, and impacts across teams.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Experience
Candidates must meet the following requirements:
7+ years of experience as a Data Scientist working on IT projects.
3+ years of experience with Medicaid programs, including developing data strategy and improving data quality and integrity.
3+ years of experience developing reports and analytics using tools such as:
R Project for Statistical Computing
Microsoft Power BI
Other data analytics/reporting tools
3+ years of experience working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
3+ years of experience presenting and communicating technical concepts to mixed audiences.
3+ years of experience managing workloads and meeting strict IT project deadlines.
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)
3+ years of experience with Healthcare IT projects and healthcare data.
3+ years of experience working on Medicaid or healthcare payer projects.
