Summary
Our client is seeking an Engineering & Architecture Lead (AI-First Insurance Platform)
The Opportunity
Seeking a heavy-hitting Engineering & Architecture Lead for a high-growth Insurtech firm that is moving faster than the rest of the industry. This is a 6-month Contract-to-Hire role that serves as the "right hand" to the Head of Technology.
The organization is currently ahead of the curve, utilizing AI-assisted development (Claude, agentic tools) to build a proprietary insurance platform. They have moved past the R&D phase and now need a foundational leader to "productionize" their systems and set the architectural standards for a rapidly expanding team.
The Challenge
The current team is lean, talented, and moving at a startup pace. They have successfully built several Proofs-of-Concept, but they need a systems-thinker to step in and ensure these innovations are scalable, secure, and resilient. You won''t just be managing; you will be the Architect-in-Chief, building the roadmap while staying hands-on with the code.
Primary Responsibilities
- Take ownership of moving AI-powered prototypes into high-scale, live production environments.
- Chair the Architecture Review Board (ARB) and define reference architectures for web, data, and AI domains.
- Act as a "player-coach" for a team of 5+ engineers—conducting deep-dive code reviews, challenging technical logic, and raising the bar for engineering excellence.
- Drive best practices in CI/CD, Cloud-native development (AWS), and MLOps pipelines.
- Work directly with data scientists to operationalize AI models into seamless digital customer experiences.
Candidate Profile
- 10+ years in Software Engineering with 5+ years in a Lead/Architect role. You must have a "platform-builder" mindset.
- Expert-level knowledge of AWS (Lambda, S3, SQS, SNS, API Gateway), Snowflake, and modern frameworks like Next.js or Python.
- You don’t need to be a Data Scientist, but you must be passionate about AI-assisted development. If you’ve experimented with agentic tools or LLMs in your own time, you’ll fit right in.
- You thrive in fast-moving, experimental environments where the "cost of delay" is high. You prefer iterative delivery over rigid, months-long documentation phases.
- Experience in FinTech, Insurtech, or regulated banking environments is highly preferred.
Position Logistics
- 100% Remote (US-based) with quarterly travel for in-person collaboration.
