Summary

MTSI is seeking a Deputy Systems Engineer to support a high-visibility Air Force program at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, DC. This role provides systems engineering and program/acquisition support to the Government Team Lead, focused on enterprise IT systems, C2 capabilities, and related technologies. The ideal candidate will have experience delivering advanced battle management and C2 capabilities aligned with joint-force operations and JADC2. Travel up to 25% may be required.

Responsibilities

Program & Engineering Support
  • Support engineering and program management activities for USAF programs.
  • Help develop objectives, integrated roadmaps, schedules, and budgets.
  • Assist with design, integration, testing, and technical reviews.

Documentation & Analysis
  • Prepare SOWs, specifications, briefs, and engineering documents.
  • Review and analyze vendor proposals within legal guidelines.
  • Conduct data gathering, analysis, and validation of program documentation.

Integration & Acquisition Support
  • Support R&D, acquisition planning, and implementation.
  • Help manage cost, schedule, and performance across program phases.
  • Assist with milestone planning, briefing development, and coordination.

Compliance & Governance
  • Support JCIDS, CONOPS, architectural views, security certifications, and acquisition reporting.
  • Assist with acquisition strategies, capability development plans, and transition to PEOs.

Roadmaps & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Develop and communicate technology roadmaps and integration plans.
  • Coordinate across customers, suppliers, and stakeholders.
  • Work across multiple classified networks while adhering to security requirements.

Required Experience
  • 18+ years engineering experience, including 5+ years supporting a systems program office (or 10+ years with a master's degree).
  • Experience with software development, integration, or lifecycle management as it relates to system engineering processes, including software-driven system design and implementation.
  • Experience with classified or special-access programs.
  • Self-starter able to work independently and with senior-level government personnel.
  • Skilled in cross-organizational coordination and problem-solving.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Teams).
  • Strong experience with engineering tools (Cameo, DOORS) and digital engineering practices.
  • Knowledge of military platforms, systems, operations.
  • Familiarity with collaboration tools such as Confluence or Jira.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud-based C2 (CBC2), system interoperability, cloud-native services, and secure DoD architectures.
  • Knowledge of networking, communications, C2 systems, and datalinks.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Required Education
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, physics, or related technical field; ormaster's degree plus 10+ years experience.

Desired Qualifications
  • Integration of weapons systems, sensors, and C2 capabilities, including cross-platform interoperability.
  • Experience delivering advanced battle management and C2 capabilities aligned with joint-force operations and JADC2.
  • Advanced degree (MS/PhD) in a technical field.
  • Knowledge of DoD acquisition regulations and FAR.
  • Familiarity with AFLCMC frameworks, directives, and policies.

Required Clearance
  • TS/SCI

The pay range for this position in is $140,000/year to $230,000/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on established government contract ranges, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, and other factors. MTSI also offers a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Base pay information is based on market location.
