Summary

Description
Work Mode: Onsite 5 days/week
Contract Type: W2 Contract-to-Hire (minimum 6 months)
About the Role
We are seeking two skilled Mid-Level Software Developers to join a highly collaborative, cross-functional team responsible for C++-based firmware and embedded software development. This role is ideal for developers who enjoy working close to the hardware layer while still contributing to larger, software-driven building platforms.
You will work in an agile development environment, partnering with firmware engineers, test engineers, and Product Owners to deliver high-quality, production-ready code that directly impacts smart building products.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Investigate, diagnose, and resolve firmware defects in a large, established C++ codebase
Evaluate production issues and determine root cause across software and controller behavior
Perform targeted fixes focused on correctness, stability, and regression safety
Contribute minor enhancements or configuration changes (not large new features)
Identify opportunities for process or test automation to improve efficiency
Participate in agile ceremonies (standups, backlog refinement)
Reality check: This role rewards engineers who like problem-solving, system understanding, and technical cleanliness, not constant feature creation.
Key Responsibilities
Embedded & Firmware Software Development
- Design, develop, and maintain C++ software running on embedded platforms and firmware-level systems.
- Implement efficient, reliable code suitable for resource-constrained environments where memory, timing, and stability are critical.
- Contribute across the full development lifecycle, from initial concept through deployment and long-term product maintenance.
- Why this matters: Siemens building systems run continuously for years and often control safety-critical operations. Firmware quality and deterministic behavior are essential to ensure reliability in real-world deployments.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with hardware engineers, QA/testing teams, and systems engineers to ensure software aligns with hardware capabilities and system requirements.
- Collaborate with Product Owners and business stakeholders to clarify requirements and translate them into practical technical solutions.
- Why this matters: Siemens Smart Infrastructure products integrate hardware, firmware, and higher-level software into a single solution. Effective collaboration ensures seamless system integration and reduces costly rework later in the product lifecycle.
Agile Development & Continuous Improvement
- Actively participate in agile ceremonies (planning, reviews, retrospectives) and contribute to iterative delivery of features and improvements.
- Adapt quickly to evolving requirements and shifting priorities while maintaining software quality.
- Why this matters: Siemens relies on agile methods to continuously evolve its smart building platforms while meeting customer and regulatory demands in a fast-moving, technology-driven market.
Testing, Documentation & Proof of Concepts
- Develop unit tests and support system-level testing to ensure robustness and long-term maintainability.
- Create technical documentation that clearly explains design decisions, implementations, and usage.
- Prepare and present proofs of concept (PoCs) to demonstrate feasibility, performance, or architectural approaches.
- Why this matters: Building infrastructure software has long lifecycles. Clear documentation and well-tested code are critical for maintainability, regulatory compliance, and future product evolution.
Required Qualifications
Core Technical Skills
- Strong C++ development experience, ideally in embedded or system-level environments.
- Practical experience with firmware or embedded systems development, including working close to hardware.
- Familiarity with writing code for performance-sensitive, real-time, or resource-limited systems.
Siemens Smart Infrastructure solutions depend on firmware that is efficient, predictable, and secure-qualities best delivered by developers with deep C++ and embedded experience.
Development Practices
- Experience working within an agile development team.
- Hands-on involvement in coding, testing, debugging, and documentation throughout the software lifecycle.
Communication & Collaboration
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Comfort working with Product Owners and business stakeholders to understand functional goals and constraints.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills
- Python or scripting experience for tooling, automation, or test support.
- Exposure to RTOS, low-level system software, or device communication protocols.
- Understanding of software quality practices, such as unit testing, code reviews, and static analysis.
- Experience contributing to products with long lifecycles and high reliability requirements.
These skills support Siemens' focus on scalable, secure, and maintainable smart infrastructure solutions deployed at enterprise scale.
