Senior Systems Engineer (AD / PKI / Nutanix)

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce's client is hiring a Senior Systems Engineer in Austin, TX to take ownership of a complex, primarily Windows-based infrastructure environment and lead key modernization efforts.

Summary:
This role is heavily focused on core systems engineering, with critical responsibility for Nutanix operations and upgrades. As an Engineer, you will join a lean, fast-moving team where the priority is to clean up legacy systems, improve stability, and execute upgrades.

What You'll Do:
* Own and improve Windows Server infrastructure, including legacy operating systems
* Support and modernize IIS/web infrastructure and core Windows services
* Drive upgrades and improvements to ensure long-term stability and scalability
* Administer and improve Certificate Authority (CA/PKI) environment
* Lead or support Certificate Authority upgrades and modernization efforts
* Improve certificate lifecycle management and reduce operational risk
* Provide hands-on support and administration of Nutanix environments
* Plan and execute Nutanix upgrades (AOS, firmware, LCM workflows)
* Support and troubleshoot site-to-site replication and failover readiness
* Ensure platform stability, performance, and upgrade readiness over time
* Bring working familiarity with Azure and/or AWS environments
* Assist with migrations or hybrid integration where needed
* Contribute to device and policy management using Intune
* Help align endpoint configuration with broader infrastructure standards

Support infrastructure decision-making related to:
* Workload placement (cloud vs. on-prem vs. hybrid)
* Cost awareness and optimization inputs

Lead efforts to analyze, clean up, and standardize Active Directory, with a strong focus on:
* Group Policy design, cleanup, and optimization
* Reducing GPO sprawl and misconfigurations
* Improving security and operational consistency

REQUIREMENTS:
* 8-10+ years in hands-on systems/infrastructure engineering
* Deep experience with Windows Server environments in production
* Strong Active Directory expertise, including: Group Policy analysis, cleanup, and redesign
* Experience with Certificate Authority/PKI, including: Administration and troubleshooting, Exposure to CA upgrades or migrations
* Nutanix experience is required, including: Participation in or ownership of Nutanix upgrades, Day-to-day administration and support
* Experience working with and upgrading legacy operating systems
* Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, low-structure environment

Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience with site-to-site replication (Nutanix or similar platforms)
* Working knowledge of Azure and/or AWS
* Experience with Intune
* Familiarity with IIS/web infrastructure
* Proven track record of modernizing legacy environments safely

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
